Crap I forgot something - can I fix it?

Hello, my fiancee and I checked, rechecked, and triple-checked our I-129F packet (she was here on a visit). Then I mailed it out the packet to the VSC and realized just hours later that we overlooked something (repeatedly). I didn't include a copy of my divorce decree with the packet. Is there any way I can send the copy of the decree without having to wait for the process to get stalled by a RFE? Also, if I have no choice but wait for the RFE, does anyone know how much this is likely to delay the process assuming I respond immediately to the RFE? Darn, I really thought I had everything in order. :(

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Wait for the RFE so that there is a case number assigned. That way your document will get married up to your file.

It will cause a delay, but if you send it right off it will be minimal. This process is an exercise in patience. Don't let it sap your enthusiasm.

Best of luck.

just wait for RFE

Oh well, I had a feeling that might be the only real option. But I still had a little hope. LOL

Anyone have an idea what kind of delay this might cause? Days? Weeks? Months? Application placed in the "get to this when hell freezes over" pile?

Great, thank you. "Minimal" delay doesn't sound too bad. :) I have my decree sitting right here, so then the RFE comes I can probably do a 1-day turn around.

Yes, these posters are correct. Just wait for the RFE. BUT! Have your CERTIFIED divorce decree ready with the envelope addressed and ready to take to the Post Office to mail with signature certified as received. Include copy of your RFE with cover letter stating your situation.

Imagine if they overlook the missing decree, and you just get the NOA1 as packet received. You will just have to remember to include the decree at embassy interview. Good Luck! :star:

I had forgot to send something (relationship letter and picture of spouse not attached , with name on the back) also but i waited till i had NOA1. After that i made a copy of it and sent that with my additional paperwork to them and also put a cover letter asking to please attach to original file. Your case number on everything. I got no RFE's and got NOA2 in just under 90 days from CSC. I don't know if it saved any time but thats what i did.

Is it necessary to send in a copy of the NOA1? I just mailed in a correction yesterday to the California Service Center and put it in a letter with the NOA1 receipt number. Do you think that is sufficient or should I resend with the NOA1?

You would think they could still just mate it with your file but i read that you should include a copy so thats what i did. On the back of your NOA1 it says any questions regarding your case to include a copy. worst case they will just send you a RFE and you are already ready to go.

Thanks. I pulled out my NOA1 after reading this thread and saw the section you are referring to. I will just type up a new cover letter, send a copy of the same letter I just sent, and a copy of the NOA1, just in case. It can't hurt...perhaps it can annoy them but it's probably best to be on the safe side. As a side note, I did call the call center on this correction and they gave me a checklist of what to send in and a copy of the NOA1 wasn't on the list. I just hope they can match the two. We'll probably get RFE on this but at least we can prepare for it ahead of time.

Yes hopefully they can still match it up but like you said i would rather leave nothing to chance, it can't hurt.
