All other names used?

Hello everyone maybe I can get some opinions about this question I have... In the G-325a and DS-230 form where it ask for "All Other Names Used" should my wife put her FULL MAIDEN NAME there just to make it easier to understand for the USCIS and NVC since you know how the middle name can get confusing sometimes. I'm her first husband so she has never been married before and we are just trying to work out all the kinks since we plan to start the CR-1 petition next month.

Thanks in advance!

I was confused about the middle name but finally got it straight with my wife. I dunno if all the ladies do it in the phils?? Her maiden middle name is her mothers maiden last name. Her new middle name after you're married will be her last name (Fathers last name) when she was single. Dear god it's still confusing when I write it down..LOL

That's traditional among many latino countries. One of my best friend's middle name is Garza (his mother's maiden name) and all his siblings had the same middle name.

Yeah my wife and her sib's all have the same mother's maiden name as the middle. They drop that after getting married and take the fathers last name as there middle, and take on the husbands name as last name.

Thanks for the replies but I already knew how the name thing works, I'm just wondering should I put her middle name or her surname before marriage in the "All Other Names Used"? We are thinking to use the middle name before marriage in that blank because her middle name now is the MAIDENS name. Haha does that make sense?

yeh, you're right. Put her name in the "all other names" part just as it was when you met her. Her married name everywhere else. Oh, and I'm glad you have it figured out, send me a pm explaining it would ya ;)

Ah great, that's what I was thinking. Just put her full singleness name in that blank so USCIS and NVC can easily understand and also it will match the birth certificate. Well just think about it.... if we are getting confused about the name, then good Lord the USCIS and NVC would be stumped for sure. :bonk::lol:

Don't worry, the Manila Embassy does the most K1 visas and is the second busiest Embassy overall. So the USCIS and NVC are use to it. You wouldn't think so if you ever called the mis-information line though.

The confusion is when you get to the US. Having two first names can be a problem with many online forms and the different middle name confuses many local governments. :jest:

it took us a while to decide how to put my name on the forms. i have two first names. but then we decided to just do it the philippine way:

First Name: Abbie Z****

Middle Name: ** (my dad's last name)

Last Name: ******** (my hubby's last name)

didnt encounter problems with USCIS and NVC so far. but i remember my friend telling me she had to drop her 2nd first name because of the confusion too

Yes, same in Brasil. We carry our father's name usually so, for example:

"Jane Doe Smith" marries "John Duke Smooth" and becomes Jane Smith Smooth and their kids will also be "Kid Smith Smooth". So if "Kid Smith Smooth" marries "Jack Dune Dante" she becomes "Kid Smooth Dante". Some families will just add on the surnames though, so you see people called Jane Doe Smith Smooth and Kid Smith Smooth Dante, etc.
