Fiance admitted drug use

So my fiance messed up big time and admitted to trying marijuana a few times and cocaine once, all as a teen. He's 26 now so its been more than three years (they say you have to wait three years to prove you aren't addicted or whatever before you can re-apply if you're denied). Obviously common sense and total fairness would say that it shouldnt be a problem since its already been more than 3 years but I keep reading that it pretty much a denial for 3 years or even forever. What do you think? Are we screwed? Have you seen more stories about small amounts of drug usage in the past being approved or denied? And cocaine? We are at the consulate in Ciudad Juarez in Mexico.

From what I understand, the 3 years only comes into play to show that you have been clean for 3 years, not admitting to drug use 3 or more years ago. Admittance of drug use is taken very seriously at the consulates.

I'm sorry, I hope things work out for you

Good luck.

Most likely but only for a short time while he undergoes testing and consultation to determine he is now and remains clean.

Have you seen more stories about small amounts of drug usage in the past being approved or denied?

Both, usually denied or further AP.

And cocaine?

That makes it worse.

We are at the consulate in Ciudad Juarez in Mexico.

This is a bigger deal at some consulates than others. My impression in Mexico is that this is NOT good. I'm going to move this thread to the regional forum - you'll probably get better advice there.

I can't speak for Mexico - but we have a few members with similar issues in Jamaica (not cocaine) - they had a two year ban, despite a clean drug test - They elected to marry and then refile when the ban was up - One just got approved and her husband is here.

You never want to tell the consulate anything like that. Sorry.

Good luck

Sarap, did they question him during the interview about the drug use? Did it even come up? Can you provide the specifics?
