There is an American Medical Center in Kiev. http://www.amcenters.com/ I know there are also private hospital facilities also. The American Medical Center is staffed by American Medical Personnell so thay should be able to point you in the best direction.

well, medical system in Ukraine is not bad is not good. We don't have medical insurance like you have here in the USA. But still you have to pay for some service. All depends who a doctor is. Even private hospitals sometimes have not experienced [skilled] doctors. There are many hospitals in Ukraine everywhere( state or private ). What region?

Why does she need an American Medical Center in Kiev if she is still an Ukrainian citizen? It's very expensive there and only for Amricans. She needs to call or go to any local hospital. They accept everybody, just have money in any case.

Varies from ww1 level to low quality by our standard. My MIL had gall bladder surgery in 2008 and was in for 9 days. Alla had to bring her food, dressings, cleaning supplies, etc. If these are left in the room the nurses will steal them and sell them to other patients. I just had serious surgery here and Alla's biggest impression was that the hospital "has everything" and she really didn't "have to do anything for me". Quite unlike Ukraine hospitals. Be oreoared to soend a lot of time inthe room and do most everything for her, though with gall bladder surgery she should be up and around in a day or two.

Be prepared to bribe people for good service, we have our own doctor "on the payroll" so to speak fro when we visit and to take care of my mother in law.

Without knowing you or your fiancee, I will say this only as a word to the wise. Be careful. Be very careful.

If requests start coming for money, be very sure what you are getting into. No accusations, no assuptions. I will only say that there has been a LOT of scams pulled in Ukraine and Russia particularly. where there are sudden family emergencies requiring lots of money. Ukraine has, basically, free health care. It is not unusual (quite normal) to bribe people for better service, but this is not a large amount of money, generally. Though a common way of life, at least bribery is cheap in Ukraine and gets results. Be very aware of what you are doing before sending any money

You are right, Gary! You should be very careful in this situation. By the way, why is she in Kiev with her mother? Is she from Kiev?? Other regions have good hospitals too. We say "Oblastnaya bol'nitsa" or region hospital. If you live in small town and you have emergency case and doctors can't do anything with that they must bring you to the region hostipal where they have more equipments for everything. They make all emergency services. But still you have to pay some money for it, it's not so expensive. Usually you pay for gas or some expensive pills or injections. It 's supposed to be free or very cheap.

actually she is not in kiev. she is in her city as i posted earler. i talked to ievganiia yesterday on phone to find out how all is going. her mom has insurance and she is transfering to someplace bit more ok.. not really better but something they feel more confrotable with. no she is not asking for money and thanks for heads up thought. if this would have happend last year when we was just getting aquainted i would have though the same thing.

since she does not ask for money ever and nothing like this want on in the 15 or 16 months we have known eachother. it is real and going on. as i figered quality of care depends on $$$$ in state run medical system. thanks for all the imputs and watching out for scamers. i have personally seen so many of them... so funny all have same story and same letters hahhaah
