Hate drinking lots of water, just means I have to get up several times to drain the vein.

You could always pull a Mathies and do it in someone elses bed.

Oh, also, this is a great opportunity to share a little "been married to a Russian for three years now" knowledge. Russian women expect to be f'king pampred for every little bump, bruise, owwie, throat tickle, sniffle, irritation and general malady. You can set the tone now for being "that guy" that's there to caress her shoulders and hold her hair back when she throws up, or you can be "that guy" that tells her to take a shot of vodka, a few Aleve, and get back to work. You decide! But decide now because if you choose one and then switch later, there's hell to pay!

Forgot to mention how you'll have nurse bad dream experiences also. You can't just blow them off as dreams, they mean something damit! :P "You were kissing other girl" "You killed a kid!" What?! "Have you ever killed a kid? You can tell me, even if police don't know, just tell me." What!? "It's ok, something when you were young maybe? Accident?" What!?? No kidding either, that went on for half an hour. I'm happy to say Anna no longer thinks I might have killed a kid based on a dream...

Slim, does a little alcohol as cure for hangover really work, in your experience? In theory it makes sense -- like a miniature detox to ease the withdrawal which is part of the hangover (along with toxins and dehdration). I have just never had the stomach for it.

So was this a "were you a little drunk when you posted this?" reply to my post above or was this because of my obviously overwhelming medical treatment knowledge?

Either way, a little alcohol as a cure does NOT work. (See the MythBusters special, it's great!) It will make you "feel" better because you'll start to feel the effects of alcohol again - in effect, a slight buzz - but you'll still need to "come down" from the effects and return back to normal. As said by several posters above, the hangover isn't necessarily the alcohol leaving your body, it's the dehydration that accompanies it. Best fix for dehydration? Water, non-caffeinated sports drinks, etc., and some light carbs and/or simple sugars.

There are a million "remedies" out there, but the only scientifically (and legally) proven ones are time and rehydration. My personal favorite?

2 Aleve with a huge shot of caffeine in Mt. Dew or similar soda (I know, buck the system).

Very, very long hot shower with the water beating down on the back of my neck.

Double Quarter Pounder w/Cheese Extra Value Meal lg. size with Coke and fries.

2 more Aleve.

Swearing off drinking like that ever again.

That all depends on which way you switch. There is truth to the advice to always be a hard-liner at first. Nobody objects if you get softer over time.

Yeah, I should've specified, it's OK to switch one way... not so much, the other way.

Funny Slim, I had a similar thing happen to me when I went to Russia. My hand broke out in tiny little welts (yeah yeah, lay it on me ;) ) And then I got to experience a Russian clinic to draw my blood... turned out to be just something I was allergic to somewhere. Some cream and I was good.

Mine was on my lip. Since I don't go to the doctor here, I didn't go to the doctor there either, just to the pharmacy. I did the whole "point and grunt" to describe what happened and what I was looking for and the girl behind the counter was like, "sure, we have herpes cream for that nasty @$$ cold sore on your lip" (only she said it in Russian). My buddy was cracking up the entire time because he'd literally seen it develop on the plane. "When we got on, you didn't have any $#!t on your lip. When we got off.... man you got some $#!T on your lip!"

My wife still won't kiss me.

Ah Slim, not just Russian ladies, I have a wonderful Ukrainian that has the same need to be babied when she has any of life's maladies

That's why you're a RUBber. They're all the same. Hot, young and need to be babied when they get a boo-boo.

Hey! I resemble that remark!

Don't feel bad. I got drunk one time when I was living in NYC after a Halloween part (dressed as a banana) Passed out on the N train in Queens, pissed myself on the train and woke up in Coney Island, Brooklyn to a metro officer telling me I better get off the train be fore he tickets my ####... good times.

Unfortunately, these kinda of stories are not isolated incidences w/ me.

I apparently had a few incidents with clothes hampers in my younger years...

Passing out on a train while being dressed as a banana is a new one! :P Suppose you were lucky a cop found your first. ;)

My single biggest claim to fame is escaping from a 5th floor hotel room - without unlocking the door.

Either that or taking a piss on the Duma.

if the cops come looking for us I'm making a run to Mexico.

Only partly related to this post in a tangential sort of way, but I've been hella sick the past 6 weeks! Yes 6! First round of anti-biotics didn't work...neither did trying to "drown the bastards with alcohol". I've been so desperate to get over it, I finally agreed to let my wife treat me.

I've been drinking hot milk with butter daily. (She tried to give me hot milk with baking soda but I refused that one so this was second best apparently)

She also brought a practical Ukranian pharmacy with her when she came so she also laid these little packets of mustard? all over my chest and back...man those things got hot!!!

I have to say...she brought something for headaches that worked really well when aspirin weren't working.

Anyone else been brave/desperate enough to be treated by their SOs?

Wife's visa journey:

03/19/07: Initial mailing of I-129F.

07/07/11: U.S. Citizenship approved and Oath Ceremony!

MIL's visa journey:

07/26/11: Initial mailing of I-130.

05/22/12: Interview passed!

Being "treated" by her family in Russia was good enough for me! ;)

I'm glad Anna wasn't the only one to bring over a Pharmacy with her when she came to visit me. "I have this in case this happens, that in case that happens, these in case those don't work" etc, etc, etc. She had 2 of the large freezer zip lock bags stuffed full and none of it was in English, I could only imagine how much fun she'd have been in if they checked her bags.

has anyone else's sweety experienced allergic welts for the first couple of weeks when she first got here,on her forum, they even show pictures of this allergy they get........is it nerves.....or something else????????

It could be almost anything. I've gotten hives from nerves and from reactions to things like laundry detergents and such. Benedryl usually does help. But, it makes me sleepy.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Yes, I have been treated by my SO too. I had a severe sorethroat in Russia, I think it may have been strep. She gave me an antibiotic (available there over the counter) and it cleared up. She also tried to get me to drink Nastoyka but that stuff tasted nasty! Generally she espouses drinking straight olive or vegetable oil for sorethroat or cough. Yuck.
