i posted this in AOS forum but canada forum is always active so hopefully someone can answer this

I currently dont have any pending applications. But, I am sending the Adjustment of Status bundle of applications this week. I am using my mother's mailing address which is in the same county and state. I have used that for all other applications. Now, my spouse and I have moved to a different address - we are 10 mins away but different zip code. is it necessary to update our address and send USCIS our physical address we are living in. or can i just leave the mailing address the way it is?

if so, can I just write our new address on the AOS application and all the other application included with it?

or do i need to fill out a change of address application separately?

For honesty's sake, you should probably using your new address, no?

If you want to be sure I would do both, just do the online AR 11 for the Cdn (takes minutes and you get a confirmation #) and do the paper form for the USC spouse and get it mailed off before first. You could then also put the new address on the AOS forms.

Good part is at least you have access to the old address if thye accidentally send it to the old address.

Thinking ahead to the future - when you gather paperwork for gthe Removal of conditions process in 2 yrs - you're going to have a discrepancy on the addresses for your bills and what yoru supposed home address is...know what I mean?

I could change address but there is no mailing service where we live..... my mailing address was our mother's address...

I chose the option to apply for AOS before my 2 year marriage - and not right away. it was the best option for us at that time.

exactly. this is why i was wondering... we just got a po box and we use that for our bank and electricity bill but i still use the old mailing address too.

Hi Borderdriver,

Likewise, I was "in between cases" when I moved too...I had received my 10yrs green card (in June), then had a baby (in July), then moved (in August), and filed for Citizenship (in September)...(yeah, it was crazy..lol..)....

But in the midst of all that while unpacking and recovering, I somehow managed to do the following (as also mentioned on my detailed VJ timeline):

Chapter 6: "Moved":

2009-08-07: Sent the AR-11 (Alien's Change of Address Card/Form for Ant) (note: form sent to Kentucky)

and I-865 (Sponsor's Notice of Change of Address for D, my husband) (note: form sent to Vermont)

2009-08-17: Received NOA/reciept for D's I-865 form, but no NOA/reciept for Ant's AR-11 form. (note: receipts aren't given for the AR-11, from what I've read)

Total USCIS AR-11 and I-865 Costs: Free (plus mailing costs of $11 via USPS w/delivery confirmation)

(Note: You can download both forms from the www.uscis.gov website. The AR-11 form you can file online or send by mail. The I-865 form your sponsor has to be sent by mail....)

So yes, you (within 10 days) and your sponsor (within 30 days) have to inform the USCIS about the move too, regardless, as by law, as a permanent residents and their sponsors have to do such, or face conseqences. As well, I also enclosed a copy of the AR-11 forms and I-865 reciept for my US Citizenship application, just in case they missed it when I sent it to them before..(you can do the same for your AOS application too).

As for differences in physical and mailing address....Just make a note of such on the forms that they are different, and you should have no problems there.....(the same thing happened to me too, as I have a different physical address and mailing address....)

Hope this helps too. Good luck with the rest of your journey.

Hi Borderdriver,

Yes, send in a copy of your AR-11 and I-865 when you send in your AOS application, and write your new address on the AOS forms, and you shouldn't have any problems there....

As for the address dilemma...

Use the PO BOX ADDRESS as your MAILING ADDRESS (used to get mail...all letters from the USCIS will be sent here)

Use your STREET ADDRESS as your PHYSICAL ADDRESS (used to determine where your 'local USCIS office' is...)

There will be lines on the forms about this...so fill and make notes about it out accordingly....

Lol..Here is what the immigration officer told me in-person when I went for my N-400 interview, when I had to clarify this issue:

Mailing Address....Where you get your mail...

Physical Address....Where you sleep.....

Hope this helps too. Good luck with your journey too....

Hi Borderdriver,

(sorry, had to post the reply here...my pm box is stuck at the moment...have to clean that out..getting full..lol...)

No problem for the help....:)

In answer to your question:

If I were you, this is what I would put:

MAILING ADDRESS (where you get the mail): PO Box #, Street Address (where the PO Box and/or Post Office is), City, State, Zip

PHYSICAL ADDRESS: Street Address (where you live), City, State, Zip

The bottom line: Mailing address..Where you get the mail.....Physical address..Where you live.....

If there is no line on the forms to state such, write both in separately..Write small...Write both addresses..Make an extra notation.....

Remember, you are dealing with the unrealiable USCIS here (which is different from the Post Office)...

Make things as easy as possible for them, so the mail doesn't get lost and they know where you live for interview location purposes...;)

Hope this helps too. Good luck on your journey.

Ant

Hey thanks for your help.

Im still kind of confused. Some of the forms doesnt have a separate mailing and physical place to indicate that i have different address. My address is not that different from what i have put.

I put PO box which is my mailing and my street address is actually where I live... the post office told me its ok to put this format:

PO Box #, home street address, city, state, zip+box #

do you think that is ok?
