I guess we've decided to K-1 it

After the drama of http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=232234 and a few days thought, we have decided to file for the K-1. Totally not what we wanted to... we are both worried that we have "red flags" in our relationship. I am 11 years older than my fiance (and to get it out of the way, he is 18, I am 29. we met on WoW, and everyone just assumed he was 20s, 30s... ages weren't really discussed? when I did learn his age, YES of course it was a lot to think about... but he is a person, not a number. he is more mature than the male friends my own age lol. we are so happy together, such a good match. both sets of parents give their blessings... so it is what it is.) , we have only met in person twice (and both while I was legally married, although this second trip I have been in the divorce process, just waiting on court date, which is 1/8). So we're worried. :/

Also worried that the no eos/cos stamped in his passport will be a hinderance to this process? Will that matter?

We are going to get the packet together while he is still here. Everything except my divorce papers I guess, and then I mail the second I am legally single again.

I wanted to add him to my checking and savings account while he is here... can anyone think of a reason this is a bad idea?

I hope we're making a wise decision. Everyone we asked had a different opinion. This seems like a reasonable way to go... and as I understand it, his living by the Vancouver side will mean faster processing than if he lived farther east? Something like that?

Anyways, after this, I guess off to the K1 forum with those questions as they arise. Thank you all for your help through this. This is a truly wonderful board and we are so glad we were directed here a few months ago with our very first questions. :)

The stamps wont hinder it but they will ask him about it if hes ever had a problem crossing the border. He will have to explain it I doubt they will make anything of it.

I met my husband online. Meeting online is very quickly becoming the norm. They will ask questions about the game, character names etc. ( they did to me anyways to make sure i was telling the truth ) We printed out some information and screen shots of our characters and game information and I also gave the website to the interviewer tho i doubt he checked it.

There's nothing at all wrong with the age difference -- anyone who tells you otherwise is foolish and narrow-minded. I never had a girlfriend who was younger than me. My wife is two years older.

Having said that, bear in mind that it probably WILL be a point of interest for the CO come interview time. Plus, it may be the kind of case that could require additional processing. I'm NOT saying that definitively, or not trying to dissuade you from going this route...just pointing out that it MAY look a bit unusual on paper.

Adding him to your checking account isn't a bad idea, so long as you trust him as much as anyone should love his / her fiance/e.

Please stick around the Canadian board though. You'll have many K-1 questions, to be sure, but bear in mind that a TON of Canadians (many of whom are WoWers) have recently gone through the K-1 process, and they're sure to have as much specific K-1 information as anyone.

Good luck to you! My heart goes out to you both, since it's a slightly more unconventional case. :)

We met in WoW too :D Its fairly normal, they didnt even really ask much about it (The gentleman I had said "the family that raids together stays together?" which I thought was cute)

As for your questions:

1) some banks wont let you put someone on your account without the SSN or some other documentation that they are here legally so you may find it difficult to do. I can't see why it would be a bad idea, you will need to do it once he is down anyway to show that you have stuff in both your names incase of getting an AOS interview. Shows that you have a legitamate relationship. They don't really ask to see this kind of thing at the interview for the K1 though so if you can't get him on there don't worry.

2) Vancouver does have faster processing times, you are right. Usually people going through VAN get their interviews within 60 days of returning their P3 where Montreal tends to fluctuate anywhere between 6 weeks to 5 months and its very unpredictable, so hes lucky hes on that side :D (though MTL is doing their best to catch up and we definately hope they keep cranking out the K1's as quickly as they can, they do get backed up sometimes because they are the only ones that do the CR1/IR1's and a few of the other visas)

Hi,

Well it's great you made the decision, one less thing to ponder!

Yes, Vancouver interviews are generally faster to obtain.

I wouldn't worry too much about your age difference being a 'red flag' - I haven't seen anyone in the Canadian forum mention it as a problem. The CO is only interested in knowing if you have a legitimate relationship - since you do, just gather your proof of that :)

I met Sean on EQ2, which is like WoW (only mo' betta' lol). When we met he was 19 and I was 28. We were just friends in the same guild who happened to duo well together so we did a ton of quests, groups, and raids together. We ended up having a "roleplaying" relationship, and then the relationship bled into our real lives. I've been playing the game since 2004, and never have I had a romantic interest in anyone online (neither has he), so we both believe this is something special.

The age thing really creeped me out for a while, because I have been a high school counselor for 8 years, and I've had students that were in his graduating class (and prior!). He reminds me that if I worked in another profession and didn't work with young adults and teenagers, I probably wouldn't be as bothered by the age difference. It has taken a while, but it doesn't matter to me so much anymore. Since we've been together, I have met all sorts of older women/younger men relationships. Including on one my way to the airport to go to Montreal. . . I met an 85 year-old who had a 50 year-old daughter who has been married to a man 10 years younger than her for 20 years! They have children together and the 85 year-old woman commented that he actually looks older than her! lol Even the custodian at my school has a boyfriend 10 years younger. We have two principals in the district who are married- she is 12 years older than him!

Don't worry about the age difference- just be happy.

Did you know that most women are widows for an average of 12 years? My grandmother was a widow for 13 years. If she was 9 years older than my grandfather (the same age difference between Sean and me), she would have still outlived him by 2 years!. He lived to age 77 and she lived to age 88.

Anywho, I am 9 years older, divorced have kids, blah blah. . . When I went to the interview with him in Montreal, I was SO nervous that they were gonna grill us about the age difference. We were interviewed by Paul Mayer- the head guy up there. He didn't even mention our age differences, and he was all smiles. I was the one who actually brought up the age thing, and Mr. Mayer just waived his hand as if to dismiss it and said, "Hey as long as you make eachother happy that's all that matters." Awwww!

So take it from me, they don't care about the age thing!

Best of luck!!

Not to say it won't happen . . . but our case did not require any additional processing, or go through any more scrutiny, or have any questioning based on our age gap at all. I've been divorced and have kids and I thought all these things would be red flags, but none of it was.

We are both free to marry, have a legitimate relationship, had all of our paperwork in order, so we were treated the exact same as the other couples who filed at the same time and interviewed on the same date and were more "traditional" couples (i.e. first time getting married, guy is older or they are close in age).

I met my fiance on Ragnarok Online. He's 12 years older than me.

They did ask if we ever questioned our age difference, but that's all that came up in that at our interview.

Of course though, trying to explain how an online game works to someone totally ignorant (The first interviewer) was certainly something
