Birth Certificates

Hello all, after reading around on the k1 forums I seen some people talking about needing a birth certificate that has both parents name on it. Mine does not have my parents names on it, it has my name, dob, birth place, date of registration/issued and the registration number.

Will this work or should I look into getting a different one with my parents name on it?

the one you need is called a long form birth certificate this is the only one the embassy will accept. if you go to the services canada website you can order one. takes a few weeks to get and costs i think 15$ for your first copy ( i'm pretty sure)

Hey there...

yeah, you WILL need the birth certificate with your parent's names and dates and places of birth on them. It's called a 'long form' but that doesn't sometimes represent size, just content.

you'll need it. I would order two, if I were you.

What province were you born? I was born in British Columbia and it took only like 8 days for them to get it to me.

The time it takes and the cost differ between province but I believe that they are all referred to as a long form.

Sounds like you've got the 'short' version - the 'long' version would contain parent's names.

Yes, you will need your long-form birth certificate with your parents' names on it. Check out your province's Ministry of Vital Statistics to find out how to get one.

I just looked at the specimen from BC (only specimen of a large version) from that link you just posted La Souris, and it shows the birthplaces of the parents.

I got my long version from Quebec, and it only shows the full names of my parents, and no birthplace. Is this enough?

I dont see how I could get a different one...

Otherwise, all the other info is the same.

mine from ottawa shows birth place date etc for parents as well as names of doctors nurses and hospital with all my birth information as well
