I'm looking to meet some of the other people here who have Scottish Fiances or Scots with American fiances! Let's get to know each other! Tell us about you!

Rob and I met online playing WoW. He came here for 3 weeks in October-November 2008 and I went there in July of 2009. We're about to file the I-29F. It would have been filed already, but somehow his photos didn't make it here, so he is sending them again.

How about you guys/gals?

Hi!

My name is Bren and I am the USC and my fiance is from Scotland. The K-1 part of our visa journey is almost over as he has his interview on December 17 and we hope he can be here for Christmas. It has been a stressful journey and we have found some wonderful guidance here at VJ. We have a 2 month old son and I cannot wait for him to meet him for the first time at the airport. I went to visit him in Scotland for six months and had a wonderful time and he has been to the states a couple of times. The best advice I can give you is to keep the faith, be patient and understanding, and to take each step of the visa journey together supporting each other. If you need to talk or need some advice or guidance and support you can pm us anytime. Good Luck on your journey and may it go smoothly!!

Hello!

So I'm Scot Number 3 in this group! I'm Christine and the man Bobby is the USC. I'm the one who has been over to the States numerous times as you USC's get lousy holiday entitlement compared to us Brits! (and Bobby is also an awesome real deal single dad). However, he's coming over to Scotland for the first time on 30th January (7 weeks tomorrow, we are so counting down!) and I cannot wait to show him the sights of Scotland, the good, the bad and the hilarious!

Thanks Bren, for your kind words and offer of advice or guidance. This "dang" visa thing is the biggest mind bending, stressful nightmare to be going through...it's a high price to pay for naively falling in love with a Yank! I got my NOA1 on 30 October so am now sweating it out for the NOA2. I've already sold my apartment in Edinburgh, my exit date is 30th June, so if that visa is not done and dusted by then, me and my 2 dogs (who are also emigrating at the cost of $7000) will be homeless!

And, I have to laugh, as I innocently put the US Consulate in Edinburgh as my Embassy on my I-129F instead of London! This Consulate is 2 streets away from my home, and I foolishly thought I would be interviewed there...but no, that would be too convenient, just send all Scots to London! We have no idea what they do in that Consulate.

Nice to hook up with you 2 couples. And likewise, if I can be of any support or assistance, just PM me, I sometimes struggle find my way around the threads and forums on this site...so hope to find you both again.

love and licks (that's the dogs)

Christine x

ps - Your son is gorgeous. It's hard enough being separated from one's partner, never mind your child. That's well tough for all three of you. Good luck with your interview. I'll be sending you the vibes on the 17th...next Wednesday!

Thank you so much!! It has been tough Ian not being able to see his son or hold him yet. He sees him every day on webcam but he is growing so fast daily and it is just not the same. I will be so thankful when Ian arrives in the states and doesn't have to go back. I will prolly sob when I hand him our son at the airport...lol Yes, this visa process has been so stressful and it's not one that everyone can make it through. It takes a very strong relationship and A LOT of patience. I wish you all the luck for a smooth journey!!

Hiya

I'm another Scot, I live halfway between Glasgow and Edinburgh. My fiance lives in Arkansas. We met online in May 2007 and I've been over there to see him 3 times (living with him a total of 8 months). We filed I-129F finally in November but as my other posts and signature show we're still waiting for an NAO1 even though we've had a request for evidence (proper RFE or not I don't know). I agree it's a pain that we Scots have to go to London for the medical and visa but I've read on VJ that it is possible to arrange the two on the same day - just holds up issuing the visa by a week or two until the embassy receive the medical results. At the moment I'm getting my house ready to sell, thankfully the housing market in Scotland never got as bad as some other parts of the UK so I'm confident that when the time comes I will get it sold. We were hoping my USC fiance could come here to visit before we get the K1 visa but are currently thinking it's better for him to find a steady job before we need to file the I-134 so I'm swithering about booking a flight out there for christmas - better get a move on huh? lol

Bren I hope you do get to be together for Christmas it would be such a great thing for your family. And I agree with the earlier post, baby (Matthew?) is gorgeous!! I will be sending lots of positive thoughts your way on the 17th.

May 2007 Met online

6th November 2007 Met in Person, returned to UK 9th January 2008

23rd June 2008 2nd trip to USA, returned 26th August 2008

22nd June 2009 3rd trip to USA, returned 20th September 2009

10th November 2009 I-129F package sent

17th November 2009 package signed for

12th December 2009 RFE(???) for CERTIFIED Divorce certificate, still not got NOA1

14 December 2009 TOLD OUR PACKAGE IS BEING RETURNED FOR INCOMPLETE DOCUMENTS - THERE GOES OUR TIMELINE BY 2 MONTHS

27th January 2010 STILL waiting for an NAO1!!!!! Packet was sent to someone else with same name and never returned, weather caused delays, telephone helpline ppl just keep saying to phone back as we have to be reassigned a new number. Argh!!! We should be approved or denied by now!!!!!

CaMic -

The London consulate changed their stance on allowing the medical and interview to be on the same day. Now, you MUST have your medical prior to the interview.

DRAT!! lol

UK citizens resident in Northern Ireland have to travel to London for the visa interview and medical also. And that involves airfare.

I'm another one that fell in love (even though I tried not to!) with a gorgeous Scot. We met because of mutual friends on Facebook and decided to go on a roadtrip as friends. That quickly led us *HERE* to VJ. He lives in Edinburgh, although he was born and went to university in Glasgow.

Regarding the medical - the sleeper trains have been Dave's method of getting to London. Take a blanket and keep warm if you decide that's how you're getting down there. He ended up not getting any sleep that night because he was emailing me the whole time telling me how frozen he was. This coming from a man that rarely complains!!

Good luck to the recent NOA1 recipients. Ian and Bren - I hope you pm me after the interview. I am super excited for you two!!!

CORRECTION: I am super excited for you three!!! lol He is getting cuter and cuter. I love that dark hair.

I'll second that about the sleeper being bloody freezing!! And I don't usually complain either! Nice comfy seats though - and was kinda cheap at £30. But no sleep for me either :-(

Thanks everyone for your compliments on the wee guy - he is the apple in our eyes :-)

And Julie - I'll drop you a PM as soon as I get back! Getting super nervous now that it's almost here now!

My husband is Scottish and we met online in 2007, in person in 2008 and married 5 months ago in Skye. We have our interview set in London for Jan 25th and with any luck will be living together by Valentine's day. It has been difficult but I think it has made us stronger and closer because we handled the entire process together. What parts of the country will you be living in after you get your visas? He is moving from Livingston (nearest big city is Edinburgh i think) to north of Boston, MA in the US.

We will be living in Salt Lake City at least until I finish my education. He has 'loads' of friends in Boston and I have always had a lot going on in Southern California. We cannot rule out the possibility of moving to either of those places in the next few years. What a small world it is anyways ;)

Phoenix for us :-) I have been in Glasgow most of my life so, not much different there!! I love the dry climate there tho - might just be the damp foggy weather we have here at the mo - but I am soooo looking forward to some AZ sun B)
