Anyone else baffled as to why there aren't any interviews after Feb 11th? What on earth is going on? Did they just not bother to give any interview dates during January? Wierdness...

I hope to God they hurry up and clear that backlog!

I called NVC because we are on the CR1 route and then they sent us an email with all the details a few hours later - apparently this is the week for scheduling so I would keep hassling them!

DOS is closed due to inclimate weather...I would be stalker calling them this week if they were actually open LOL. What's 3 ft of snow? They can't handle it in D.C. or what?

Sundrop, can you please now change us to Approved!!!! :D

So I had my interview today, after an early morning and very little sleep. My appointment was at 9am, but after reading peoples experiences on here, I actually got to the embassy just after 7.30. Got all the way to the xray machine when they tell me that I have something electronical in my bag. Doh, I left my camera in the depths of my huge bag. Even after checking. So, had to run down to Goulds and dropped it off. I was allowed back to the front of the queue. Even with that set back, I was still inside by 7.55.

I then took my number and had a seat. By this point, I was actually pretty calm, just the anticipation and waiting that drives you mad. I took a book, but barely read it, the numbers were constantly being called out, so couldnt concentrate. After about an hour, I was called up to the first window. A young, miserable guy served me, didnt even say good morning, but hey ho. He took fingerprints, birth cert, police cert, photos and affidavit and told me to go pay and come back. He then handed me over a big brown envelope and told me to take a seat and wait for my number to be called again.

I then waited less time, I think around 30 mins until I was called up again. This time I had a lovely american woman who was really nice and friendly. I had to take an oath and sign the form. She then had to take my fingerprints again and then asked me some questions, quite a lot, but it was more of a conversation than an interview. I cant remember them all, but a few were:

How did you meet?

How long ago?

Where was this?

How many times have you seen each other in this time?

When did you get engaged?

How did he propose?

What does he do for a living?

I mean, really easy questions to be honest and she was really nice, so it didnt feel like I was being interogated, like I normally do when Im going through immigration in the States. It was actually more relaxing than many of my experiences going over through the airport immigration.

So she eventually said that congratulations, you have been approved, welcome to America! I was like, really???!! It seemed so quick and easy after all this time and stress! She then told me about the brown package I would recieve and about the courier service and that was it.

I was out by 10am, which is really not all that bad really. So I would definitely recommend getting there sooner rather than later. I would have been out quicker than that, if I hadnt forgotten my camera, because the other I numbers, were behind me in the queue outside, but then ended up in front of me. But its seriously not that big of a deal.

Im now in a state of crazy excitement, shock and reality hitting me a bit now. I just move on to another part of my journey now, emigrating and marriage!

All in all, the experience was fine and nothing to stress about at the end of the day. Im just realising now, after having a 3 hour sleep this afternoon, just how much this whole thing takes out of you physically and emotionally. But at the end of the day, its so worth it.

I just want to say thankyou so so much to everyone on here, this website really has helped so much, I dont know I could have done it, if it werent for everyones advice on here. Thankyou!!!!

Oh, sorry, quick question....Can you open the brown envelope with your xrays in? I forgot to ask. She said not to open the one I get sent, but nothing about this one. No big deal really, im just facinated to look at the xray again!

Congratulations, brit_la. I'm glad to hear that everything went well at the interview!

I remember the first week or so after my approval were a very emotional time for me. I couldn't seem to believe that it was all over-I dedicated so much time and energy and thought to worrying about getting everything right at the interview, when it was all over and done with --- I didn't know what to do with myself for ages afterwards!!

Even now (my interview was Jan 15th) it's hard to believe it's actually happening.

I just want to say thankyou so so much to everyone on here, this website really has helped so much, I dont know I could have done it, if it werent for everyones advice on here.

I still remember the day my fiance and I first looked into the K1 process. It seemed so utterly overwhelming and impossible that I cried about how we were ever going to succeed. Visajourney has made the process bearable for me-the advice is invaluable and being able to share others' experiences really helped to give me confidence during the interview (and the medical).

My x-ray envelope wasn't even sealed properly. I don't recall ever reading anywhere that said not to open it. But then, I'm not entirely certain.

Thankyou Frostymint!

Im sure its going to take a while to sink in. I now feel like I have so much time on my hands to do all the things I needed to do before, but just couldnt think about. So now im going to start looking into shipping stuff and all that jazz.

Oh, I decided to drive by the way, on your advice, so thanks for that. It was soooooo easy and so much more convenient for me, so im glad I did it that way.

I might sneak a peak in my envelope then, it is sellotaped up though!

Good luck with everything! I hope to see more of your journey soon

Yes! We got our interview date!

Put us down for 2nd March at 9:00.

(FYI - Yes, DOS is still closed due to the snow. We found out via email from the embassy because we had some issues previously with it taking 8 weeks for the embassy to log in our packet from NVC so we were told to contact them if we hadn't received a date by 4 weeks after he posted his packet 3. This is likely not typical).

So now im going to start looking into shipping stuff and all that jazz.

It can get a bit daunting, trying to keep track of what needs to be done before moving.

So far, I've made a start by selling some of my unwanted stuff at Amazon Marketplace. I've made £350 so far, so I'm really pleased about that.

And I also began to look into shipping companies. excess-baggage look like a good company (and I believe they've been recommended by members of VJ) so I'm thinking of going with them.

Oh, I decided to drive by the way, on your advice, so thanks for that. It was soooooo easy and so much more convenient for me, so im glad I did it that way.

Oh! I'm glad to hear that it went well driving down there. The biggest problem with London is traffic and parking, but if you can plan for those two issues, then I don't think London is too bad. It's not exactly my favorite place though---makes me feel claustrophic!

I might sneak a peak in my envelope then, it is sellotaped up though!

Well, my x-ray envelope was pretty much already open, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to take a look see. I think I've read other VJers mention they took a look at theirs. But I don't know for certain whether it's allowed, so you might want to wait and check with other members first. Although, since there's nothing on the envelope that warns you NOT to open it, I guess it's okay.

The actual visa envelope (when you do get it) is clearly labelled not to be opened.
