They both mention each other, but what is the difference?

I am the USC and my fiance is a Greek Citizen.

We have gone through the K-1 process but we haven't submitted everything they needed on a RFE and missed the dead line.

So, we are discussing getting married in Greece and then have another ceremony here in the U.S.

Can someone explain if we get married in Greece then which Visa is the one we should apply for?

Thank you for your help.

You don't really have a choice on which one you file, you have to first file for the I-130 for the CR1 visa before you can file the I-129F for the K-3 visa. Usually the I-129F is completed first, but there are situations where the I-130 is approved first.

k-3 visas for the most part take longer..............................

Do you mean longer than the K-1 or the CR1? The K-1 is usually the quickest followed by the K-3, the the CR1. Of course this is based on the average time, it might not hold true in all cases.

Hi there,

I just ran across this and I don't know *exactly* what your story is or where you plan to live after marriage BUT I am a USC married to a Greek citizen -- we were married (civil ceremony) and currently living in Athens . . . for now. I have a residence permit good for 5 years.

I do know that we will be able to skip the K visas and file for a DCF when the time comes. We planned on staying here for a couple years after getting married so I went ahead and applied for a residence permit BUT in Greece it's only required that one person of the two applicants be a Greek citizen/resident. If you are married for less than 2 years I do believe that there are conditions on his Green Card but it's no biggie and can have those removed after 2 years. (Not sure if this is 2 years of marriage OR 2 years after arriving in the U.S.)

And from what I've heard/read it's much easier and faster. :)

Anyways, Good luck with whatever route you chose!

Kristen
