I'm heading back to Phil in a few days before Christmas. This time I'm changing planes in Taipei, Taiwan.

I've never been to this airport before. Has anyone been through the airport and is it difficult to locate gates etc ? I'm just wondering what the language barrier might be like if I ask someone for directions or if that will be a problem .. maybe gates are easy to locate ??

I'm flying China Air from San Francisco (SFO) I change plans in Taipei and then from Manila I fly PAL.

Normally I use Cheaptickets or one of those similar sites to hunt for the best price. Before I flew Hawaiian Air. This time no tickets were available and I couldn't find what I wanted from those sites.

I saw a post here that someone mentioned China Air a while back so I got my ticket direct from them and then I booked the connecting flight direct with PAL online.

I think my total ticket costs round trip was around $1,700. I've seen many tickets much higher than that. I had limited dates to pick from due to my work. :)

I've been through Taipei a few times on the way to Vietnam. Nice airport.

You will likely arrive in the new part of the terminal and then go down to the older part for the flight to Manila.

The signage is good and there are people there to direct you through to the proper area.

You won't have any problems. just follow the TRANSFER signage, go through security/xray again (why?) and up the escalator. Has free internet access and shopping area to kill some time.

Taipei is a piece of cake. Like they said, just follow the signs. There's a train to take you longer distances. Like Anh Map said, you'll probably land at one end and connect on the other. It's a very quick and easy airport. You don't have to empty every pocket or take your shoes off at security either - just take note of the sign when you exit the jetway. It's the only rule they need ;)

you should be fine... we were in taipei 2 yrs ago for our connecting flight to phil. a lot of airport officials can help you and as for as i can remember u'll go to another security screening but it wont be that bad... love the duty free there too... happy trip!!!
