Application vs Receipt Numbers on I-797 and I-797c

Hi,

I have been a long-time lurker, but this is my first post, so please be gentle ;-)

After submitting my I-751 application in August I quickly received the initial I-797C extending my status for a year. However, the receipt number at the top of the I-797C document didn't seem to do anything on the USCIS website when searching for a case status update. When my ASC appointment notice for the biometrics arrived, the application number (again starting with EAC) was different, and this time could be added to Case Status Online, etc... Is this normal?

The reason I am asking is that I am starting to wonder why my case is taking longer than other people who have entered their information on the Immigration Timelines tool - people who submitted after me (to the same service center) are getting approved, and I've heard nothing after the biometrics.

Thanks,

- TheBigMan

OK - I have looked at the August filers thread and realised that almost no-one who filed at VSC has been approved yet... so pls ignore the part of my post about being later than others... however my question about the Receipt vs Application numbers is still out there if anyone has any ideas!

Thanks!

Yes it is normal, same with the rest of us. The receipt numbers are always different with the NOA1 and the Bio notice. That is why, if you read the small print of the NOA1 notice, it says you can check your status only with the Bio notice number. They know we were going to ask the same question! So it is a given that the two numbers will be different.

Good luck for a fast approval!
