hello again friends =) Anyone use the USCIS website to check on their visa status? I just had a quick question about mine. So my NOA1 date at the VSC is October 9th. Whenever i logged into my account at the USCIS website it says my application was "last updated" on the october 15th. What exactly does "last updated" signify? So far, no RFE notices or approvals. Its been over a month since our NOA1! hopefully VSC continues to move as fast as rumored =) thanks for ya'lls advice!

FYI: i posted this topic in another forum accidentally. So i reposted here. Sorry for the redundancy =P

That is what is referred to as a touch - when (or if) the Last Updated date changes, we call a 'Touch.'

Here's what happens.

Your case is received at USCIS - it is put into a file folder and assigned a label - the label has a bar-code that can be scanned. Whenever that bar code is scanned, the 'Last Updated' date will change (I imagine it is possible to get scanned multiple times in a day, but the date would obviously change only once, for example). I would also imagine there are a lot more reasons than someone actually working on a file/case that would trigger a 'Touch', things like moving the file, counting the file or otherwise tracking it through the process.

It is a nice tool to calm our nerves so we at least know they have our case and they (usually) know where it is at any given time (spending most of it's life in a stack most likely), but usually there's not much other meaning to it than something like what I described. Some folks don't get 'touched' until the day they get approved.
