My sweetie heard from her friend who recently got visa approval, that "most of the girls who's fiance was present for the interview were not approved". The apparent reasoning is that the girls were relying too much on their fiances or something. I had her clarify that the friend did not mean 'most of the rejected had their fiance present' but rather 'most with their fiance present were rejected'.

Is this true in anyone else's experience? I have intended to be there with her during the interview, specifically to explain any questions about my financial situation which is not typical. If it's a better idea for me not to be in the interview, I'll just write a letter on my business letterhead trying to explain what they might need to know or have clarified.

Maybe I'll just wait in the lobby, and in the letter include "If there are any uncertainties about the business and finance situation, I am waiting in the lobby and can answer any questions" heheheh.

My husband joined me in my K1 interview last 2006 in the USEM. Maybe it's case to case basis for that reason of approval or rejection. My hubby was a big help joining me on my interview, he was questioned about his affidavit of support but he explain it well. And even my 4 yrs. old son being questioned by the Immigration Officer about if he knew the guy (my fiance then) with us. And my son answer the IO , he's my daddy!

Best of luck on your journey!(F)

When I went to the interview with my fiance, there were about 100 marriage based visa's going on that day.

I would say I saw 5 US Citizens at the USEM interview that day.

I think it shows proof of your relationship, and I suggest to anyone who can attend the interview with thier girl, to do it.

Plus you will have first hand experience of the whole process, which is basically a cake walk.

I' am gonna have to call Bull$hit on that

I dont think it hurts to be there, unless you have limited information about your spouce.

hello! my fiance was there with me during my interview at the US embassy in manila last june 1 and we did not have any problem with that. there were, however, 2 couples ahead of us whose fiances were not allowed inside the room with the consul. when i asked, the embassy staff explained that it was the consul's discretion to let the fiance inside the room with the beneficiary during the interview. good luck and pray!

We just had our interview in Manila yesterday. I was there for the interview and believe it was a big help. The lady told us that it was up to the interviewing officer if I was going to be allowed in the room. The officer had no problem with it and in fact he directed most of his questions to me... not her.

While waiting I saw a lot of other people there without the US Citizen and they seemed to have been asked a lot more questions than we were. I think being there shows that it is a legitimate relationship and helps.

Kevin, I'm in the same boat you are as to financials. I did not work last year ao I could go to the Philippines 3 times, so I've got to explain that and some other things. I really think its vital to be there, yes, theres a chance you may not be invited in the room, but your fiance could say you are sitting right outside. I'm inclined to think if he did have questions that he would speak with you. It also gives them a chance to size you up in person. its all about her becoming a public charge. JMHO

My fiance was with me when I had my interview last month and we did not encounter any problem. He was asked a couple of questions by both the pre-screener and the CO and the rest of the questions (which were not much) were directed to me.

While it helps to know other people's experience in their visa journey, please bear in mind that each case is unique and the CO at USEM who conducts the interview decides on the visa approval or denial base on the documents presented to them and the manner by which the interviewee presents herself during the interview.

It would be a good experience for you to be with your fiancee during her interview. It would also give her more confidence if you go with her. Some tips for you and your fiancee:

- Dress comfortably but appropriately. USEM is an office not a shopping mall. Your dress need not be too fancy but you should not look scuzzy either.

- Questions directed to your fiancee should be answered by her, do not offer to answer anything for her. Answer only the questions directed at you.

Don't worry, if she is able to prepare well for the interview and your documents are complete, it should be an easy one.

Good luck.

As I've posted many times before.

I've seen lots of petitioners that regret NOT having attended the interview. Very few if any that regret having attended.

Your fiancee shouldn't pay much attention to what other pinay say. LOTS of wrong info out there.

Thanks everyone.

I'm quite confident in her ability to answer any questions. She even knows my family members' birthdays perhaps better than I do already

I did intend to be there, even if not in the interview itself. She met up with another, closer, friend yesterday who also recently got her visa approved. This friend is a more reliable source and confirmed what you all said (and what I suspected), that me being there is almost certainly a benefit.

Perhaps you might to provide a cpa-audited Income Statement?

I put one together for the last 3 years - my 'income' is weird, as I rarely took a salary, only small dividends. I also wound up simply moving cash, and used CASH as my asset, instead of personal income (which is non-existant, mostly ).

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
