Hi everyone!

I just joined these forums after trolling Google for hours to try and find good information on immigrating to the US.

My fiancé and I met in October 2008 while playing an online game called Warhammer: Age of Reckoning. We met face 2 face in December 08, where I spent christmas with his family and friends. He was in the USMC at the time and came with me to Canada before heading back out to Hawaii, where he was based. In Feb 09 he was honorably discharged from the USMC and returned to the US. He is going through the VAH for various post-deployment issues and is not currently working. We decided he should come and live with me in Toronto while this was going on (long story short: his mom is not the best and his friends have nowhere for him to stay). We got engaged in May 09 and plan on marrying in June '10.

I will be filing for the K-1 visa in January. I cannot file before that as unfortunately I am stuck until end of Dec waiting for my (very difficult) divorce case to go through.

I'm really looking forward to our journey forward and cannot wait to move to the US! smile.gif

We are applying through Vermont as we plan on living in PA.

This is a long process and can take about a year, so a summer wedding might be a tight squeeze. Also, if he is the USC, how will he sponsor you if he has no job and is living with you? I assume he gets disability from the Marines?

You'll need to make sure he doesn't over stay his visit with you in Canada. I don't know how long he is allowed to stay there, but 6 months is how long Canadians can visit in the US.

Good luck with your K-1 Visa. We are all here to help!

Welcome to the chaos! You have no idea how this forum will save your sanity through this whole process. wacko.gif I met my fiance playing world of warcraft. We played warhammer for a while, but unfortunately went back to wow, lol.

I would start looking at how long he can legally stay with you in canada. You dont want to start this process the wrong way. Second, and unfortunately one of the most important parts of this process is that he meets the financial goals that the us govt sets up for this process. If he cannot then hopefully, like we did, you can find a co-sponsor to fill that gap for you guys.

Start getting together all your paperwork. Search through stuff and find any evidence that you have saved from your visits with each other and collect all of it in a notebook. My notebook has saved me time and again, cause you will check it atleast once a week to make sure you have enough, then when nvc receives and ships to the consulate you will probably check it twice a day lol. Just as long as you stay organized you will be good wink.gif

We are sending our packet 3 in this week, so hopefully our interview in the next couple of weeks (luckily we are interviewing in sydney australia) they are pretty quick with their responses. VSC has a great record for getting papers through pretty quick this year! So good luck to yall! Take care!
