Hi everyone,

I have some questions...I converted to islam a little over a year ago. We had an engagement party in morocco, but applied for our marriage license here in the states. My husband came on a k-1. After the imam married us, I contacted him a few months later for our "lslamic certificate." We already had one from the state. It stated the dowry amount and such. the only thing left that I think I need to do is register with morocco.

is that correct? or did I miss something? thank you for your help.

prena

I just did the same.. we were married 7-19 and I was wondering that same thing... if I find out I will let you know... and if you get some information please let me know... thank you (F)

Verse of the day...

Bismillahi Rahmaani Raheem

"Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter . And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursee extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great."

(Al-Baqara, Chapter #2, Verse #255, Ayatul Kursee) This translation is taken from Islamicfinder.com and it's by Mohsin Khan.

Kursee is Arabic for chair; this refers to the foot stool of Allah's 'Arsh (throne) although in some translations it says "throne" and other use "knowledge".

This verse always makes me cry out of joy when I recite it.

Like many of you, I grew up being taught that God created the Heavens and the Earth in 6 days and on the 7th day He "rested" (I am a preacher's kid). When I read this verse for the first time it was a great feeling to know that Allah has no need to "rest" as He says in this verse that "neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him" and "He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them".

He really is the Most High, the Supreme! Allahu Akbr! Allahu Akbr! Allahu Akbr! (God is Great!) (L)

Does anyone else have a particular verse that affects them more than others? I don't want to say "favorite" because I think we should love all of the Quran and not just certain verses. Please share the verse that affects you the most when you recite it or when you first read it etc.

Prena, I didn't want you to think anyone was ignoring you. Some of us here actually don't agree on what constitutes a valid marriage in Islam (I am not going to start the discussion again). I would recommend you ask the imam at your masjid or write to one of the scholars.
