Somewhat An Off-Topic Question

Is Britsuperstore.com safe to buy from?

I just placed two orders from them online... anyone experienced buying from them? Did you encounter any problems with them or receiving your orders on time?

Any info is much appreciated.

Thanks.

Not off topic at all, these regional forums are for anything and everything relating to immigrating from the UK - and finding the right place to buy sausages is completely on topic. :D

That said, I have never tried them, but I found a British food store in Phoenix, and it was very expensive just to get some good bacon! :(

We have a British import shop in my town but we went in looking around and my husband spent most of the time whispering "you're joking or c'mon" and mentioning how much it would cost at home. But it is nice to know it is there if he gets a craving. We got some beef granules so he could make Shepherd's pie and I have no idea why they are any different from ones we have here but he swears they make all the difference.

I've never used them but I've heard of them before and have not heard anything bad either. Post again after you recieve your parcel and let us know if they are any good.

I have to say that British bacon and American bacon are not even close. When we went out for a burger I asked why they put ham on it and my husband looked at me as if I were looney and said it was bacon. I said no it's not. It was kind of amusing. When I showed him bacon here he explained that is streaky bacon at home.

I am still learning fries are chips, chips are crisps and juice is not juice but soda. It'sike learning a new language but it is always interesting.

Our nearest British import store is about 3 hours each way from where my fiance lives! Not going to be going there often, though I guess maybe we'll just stock up when we do go over.

I looked into Britsuperstore.com, but their shipping rates weren't so great. (None are, it seems). I'm trying to think of a good way to import Ribena, because it's practically the only thing I'll drink! When I stayed in America for five weeks, we ran out of Ribena so had to order some more. Wish I could remember where I brought it from. It came pretty quick, but they hadn't packed it very well and one of the bottles had leaked slightly (not much, thankfully). It cost me about $30 for 2 1litre bottles (+ shipping). Insane!

I guess I figure that eventually I'm going to have to settle for US equivilents. My fiance says that if I want to import things, then he isn't going to mind, but the costs just seem too much for me to be able to justify this for absuloubtly everything.

I've had friends who have used the site when they've been desperate and they've had good service.

There are other alternatives tho....In Atlanta we have the "overpriced" brit shops but you can also find them in indian supermarkets and farmers markets. Indian supermarkets are the best because they are normally cheaper and carry cadbury's. My local Kroger and Publix supermarkets carry a small selection as does World Market...it's just a case of having a look round. :)

Thank you all for your replies. I'll start looking for British import stores in my area as well, cheaper that way to satisfy those cravings!

And a quick update about my order from Britsuperstore, they just dispatched my goods and mailed them out today through ParcelForce Global Priority. International shipping fees are terrible (anywhere I shop), but cravings took over! :P From UK to California, I'm not sure how long it takes for the goods to get to me though.. anyone knows? Hopefully, the package won't get stuck in customs for a while.

Most of the grocery shops here have a section for British imports and I've seen ginger beer, irn bru and some fruity sodas. Some things are in both the import section and the regular shops but under a different name at a better price and still by the same company. Heinz for example makes about half a dozen types of tinned beans and the vegetarian ones in tomato sauce is like what we had at breakfast in UK. If I got them in the import section the price doubles. HP brown sauce is like $6 a bottle in import but a lot less to get Heinz 57 sauce which is the same thing under a different title. We wandered around shps here and in UK and compared products. The one thing I noticed in Scotland that I wish we had more of here is the sauces you just add to a meat to make a meal. I've found some pretty similar ones and also other British foods in Trader Joe's at good prices. If you have one in your area check them out. They carry healthy foods at reasonable prices. Oh and I can't think of a shop that doesn't carry Cadbury products.

At a guess, maybe 5 - 10 days? 14 at most, perhaps. It is heading towards the Christmas season though, so things might be a bit slower than normal.

Oh and I can't think of a shop that doesn't carry Cadbury products.

I was under the impression that UK Cadburys and US Cadburys chocolate tasted different, though. I don't recall seeing any Cadburys chocolate when I was in the US, though I was at least pleased to see Mars bars, so that was a nice familiar sight (even if that's not cadburys chocolate).

I did think rice krispies tasted.. different, though. Maybe it was just me...

And despite finding a recognized brand of chicken soup, it didn't taste anything like the British equivilent.

I missed British bread too, though I guess it's not a huge loss since I'm not a massive bread eater. I missed being able to dip it into my soup though. I thought US bread's really nasty - tastes oddly sweet. Shame I can't import bread! But at least I can make do with alternatives to bread (and maybe I just need to try different variaties? There are certainly plenty of British breads that taste awful)

You're right FrostyMist - US cadbury's is waaaaay different to UK cadbury's. If you look on the back and it says made under licence to Hershey's then avoid it at all costs. The packaging does look different too. However Australian, Irish and middle eastern cadbury's is doable...believe me I've tried them all in my desperation!

My husband does find the breads sweet here but if I've found some that he likes. You will just need to kep trying them. Maybe it varies by part of the country? We are just north of Boston and seem to have a lot of stuff available in our area.

I've had both and dont notice any difference at all but then I prefer dark chocolate and Cadbury milk seems to be the most popular.

:D It's funny isn't it. It's definitely what you are used too. My american friends love their hersheys but my argument is that if they were brought up on cadbury's then they would have a different opinion.

Yeah, my guy doesn't quite get why I'm being picky about Hersheys. I thought they were okay, but cadburys is totally superior. I guess if worse comes to worse, when I'm over there I'll just be bugging my family back in England to send me a lot of chocolate over!

I'm really curious to try Indian cadburys now!
