They drilled. Granite's too hard to dig. lol. It took a few hours. It was interesting watching them find the location for the well, though. They did it the old way with the dousing rods. Is that how they found your underwater source? I found it kind of funny, though, since it's right on Georgian Bay. I mean, where AREN'T you going to find water? lol

My BIL is a driller and has drilled many a water hole, he has his 'witching stick' and apparently it works very well

Ok this is fun, but I want to vent some more. I am still looking at houses and apartments. The good news is Mike is going to view a house after work, which is one bus ride from downtown and a short one at that - so he would not have to pay $500 a month for parking.

The down side is, it's more than we want to pay - the rent isn't that bad, but the utilities, in the winter, run around 350-400 a month - which is about what we paid when we were living in a large house here (but the rental house is older).

Oh well, we will see.

Oh and I heard back from the apt people here, our rent will go down by $50 if we sign another six month lease.

Krikit-Lol..yeah, a drill would work better in this case than digging! Actually, I think they drilled it with some big machine when they found our water too. Lol..Would take forever to dig such with just a shovel! I don't know exactly what you mean by dousing rods, but are they those metal sticks that misers use to test magnetic energy to search for water? I don't know if they used these sticks or not when they found my water (I wasn't actually there when they set up the drills, and only saw the drills afterwards), but either way, was glad that they found water. I agree, I find it funny too, that there is water nearby, and yet they can't find water...Lol...there's certainly a lot of water in Georgian Bay! Actually, for our water, they warned us about the same thing too...Despite our water source being next to a creek...They still had to dig more than usual (average is 50ft...we had to go for 100ft)...So yeah, that added extra costs in things too...Think the rocks around the water source has something to do with it..in both of our cases.....Nevertheless...Water can be found! Keep on drilling..lol...!

I find that totally cool. Amazing, really. All the technology that's available today and that's still the best method.

That's a lot of money for utilities, Trailmix. Will the utility companies do fixed billing so you're not financially weighted down in the winter?

Yes, the gas company will. I know with the other house we paid an averaged amount, for gas, of aroundddd $170 a month, I believe.

Utilites here really do suck, no question.

They are planning to do a whole bunch of electricity system work, they claim we need to expand it, etc etc - which is going to mean a HUGE cost to the consumer. I wrote to my representative, i'm sure the premier will take my words in to consideration.

Or not

So I must admit I haven't been following the national news much lately - but they are saying that he may be using this as a way to avoid the inquiry in to possible torture of afghan detainees? I hope he isn't that stupid, I don't think he is, guess we will find out what's really going on when someone actually gets the story, rather than just stating what the opposition has said.

Well, the big thing indicating that - aside from the Opposition - with stalling Parliament, the special group that is investigating the allegations of torture will be folded.

Yeah, it seems, for some insane reason, proroguing Parliament disbands special committees. I don't understand why. Also, all bills on the floor need to be reintroduced, so basically, they go back to their original form (no amendments).

I was supposed to meet my mom in Rochester tomorrow to pick up Ethan BUT now I have to go all the way to Toronto. My mom lost her status card and can't cross the border without it. She thinks she left it at Staples but won't be able to find out until they reopen on Monday.

Ugh.

Sprailenes- Hope your mom finds her (Native?) status card soon...Yeah that sucks that she can't find it until Monday and can't cross the border without it...

Hmm..maybe instead of driving all the way to Toronto, you can drive to Niagara Falls or Fort Erie or some other Canadian city close to the US border...Would sure save you a lot of driving all the way up there..lol..Especially in this crazy snowy weather! Hope this helps too....

yea native status card.

We discussed going to the border but it would be a lot of driving so she's going to put us up in a hotel in Toronto for tomorrow night if we go all the way there. It's just hard going home because it takes me at least a week to recover from the homesickness.

Sprailenes-Lol..That's what I thought (but wasn't sure about)..that it was a native status card that your mom had, as that's one of those documents that one can cross the border with. Lucky Natives!..No need for a passport or any other extra documents there!

Either way, hope that your mom finds her card soon.

Good luck with your trip to Toronto. That was nice of your mom to put you up on a hotel in Toronto (lol..especially since hotels in Toronto aren't cheap). Don't worry, you'll recover from the homesickness....And before you know it, it will be time for another visit back home soon....

At least you live close enough that you can drive back home, which is good too...:) Enjoy your time back there for this trip...
