I would like to vent about my own stupidity:

So this morning I get ready, put on my jacket and head out for work. As I leave the house, both our apartment door and the main door lock behind me. We're in the middle of a huge windstorm (complete with thunder, lightning, hail, sleet, a little snow, and icy roads) and I, like a moron, wore a hoodie instead of my jacket. Upon reaching the car, I went to grab the keys out of my pocket and discovered them missing. Okay, not really missing, just upstairs. No big deal, I think, I'll just call Spoom to let me in. Well, the phone rings and rings (both our house phone and our land line) and I don't know which doorbell is ours outside yet. My only option is to wake up my grandparents, who live in the downstairs apartment in the house, and borrow their key to the upstairs apartment. Then I realize, I don't know their new number (it was just changed recently). So I call my mom (also my boss) at work, and get my grandparents' phone number. They get up, let me in and grab the extra key to my apartment....

I made it to work after that without incident, but BOY did I feel stupid this morning.

So NJ cleared the gay marriage cleared the state Senate. She comes in today to ask me if I have read the papers. I told her yes. Then she proceeds to tell me how she knows people "like that" and how they act like they're "happy" and then says: "I think they'd be happier if they were normal!"

Ugh. Some people. So I asked her: "Well I think they should be allowed to marry, how does what they do affect you?" and she just looked at me and said: "Its gross and I have to look at it when they do it!" really? Do they have sex in front of you? Do you rent gay porn? How do you have to look at it every day? Because I have lived here for over 2 years and I have never had to "look at it".

Seriously? I don't even have the words. I was so annoyed and she knew it, so she just walked away.

Okay, so here is what happened to the computer. I downloaded Norton, had a problem installing it and contacted their tech support. The guy said that I needed a newer version of XP and asked me to allow him remote access to my computer so he could download and install that. I did, he did a whole bunch of things on the computer (I was watching him go in and out of programs, etc.). Then he went to restart my computer and when he did, it stopped working. I just got an error message and nothing he tried to do would fix it. He said it wasn't his fault, that there had been something wrong with my conmputer obviously, and told me to call Dell. So, the Dell tech tried walking me through repairing it, but it would not work. She said the version of XP the Norton tech downloaded was incompatible with my computer and that is what she thinks caused the px. She said that the only thing left was to reinstall XP, which would wipe out everything. She suggested I take my computer in to get someone to retrieve data from the hard drive. So, we brought it to Staples last week. They called yesterday and said my hard drive was fried and they cannot access data. They could ship it off for $1500 and there is no guarantee data can be recovered. I took it to another computer specialist in the town and am waiting to see.

Your first mistake was installing a Norton product. I've never had any luck with those and neither has anyone I know. Stay away if you want a functioning computer.

I have that turned off (I configure the hell out of my system) as I wouldn't trust anyone to take control of my machine.

A "newer version" of XP? There are no newer versions. XP isn't even made anymore. The only thing I can think of is he tried to download and install Service Pack 3 (and it didn't work right, which is really no surprise) or he somehow wanted to run the 64-bit version of XP, instead of the more common 32-bit copy. There are other versions of the OS, but none that'd make any sense for a normal desktop or laptop.

The Norton tech probably said it wasn't his fault because he blamed a piece of software unrelated to Norton. In this case, he's probably referring to XP crapping out on you, which was probably his doing. Even so, he can take that route and claim no responsibility. One of the very many reasons (even beyond standard security practices) why I never allow anyone remote access to my computer.

How could the HD be fried? If the OS screwed up, the HD would still be operational. Hard drives are hardware devices whereas the operating system is software. The two are unrelated in this case.

Thanks for the support Deadpool. I feel enough like an idiot already. My 19 month old was climbing all over me and distracting me, which definitely influenced my decision to allow him remote access (not my brightest move, I know).

I would seriously call Norton about this. First you need to turn the b!tch/as$hole switch on and call them and if someone doesn't give you the response you want, ask to talk to their supervisor. If you phrase it as "My computer was operating fine until two things occured: 1) I installed your software on it and 2) allowed your tech support people access to it. " The error is their tech support guy. Make sure you take notes as referencing names, times and what people said is a key to the "as$hole strategy". Just be persistent.

When we were printing out our friends invitation envelopes for the wedding, my parents (who are fairly conservative) noticed that a few were addressed to two females or two males. My mom made some comment about how nice it was that we could just put roommate's names on the same envelope. Spoom and I kinda looked at each other, and I explained that I had several friends who were gay, and that we were inviting them and their SO's to the wedding. My dad kinda "harumph"d from his chair and made some comment about how they'd "better not flaunt their gayness" at my wedding.

I asked him what would constitute "flaunting" their homosexuality - holding hands? dancing together? kissing?

He wouldn't answer me, and wouldn't continue with the conversation. My wedding should be entertaining, at least

I need your opinion!

I went to Spa Utopia yesterday and told the male registered message therapist assigned to me to to do deep tissue massage for my neck and back (been getting aches there). That's the package I'm paid for: 50 mins Deep Tissue Massage for Neck and Back.

He starts off with a butt massage. The he does my neck and back.

???? What the ??? Now, it did feel good, but my butt ain't hurting and I would have loved the 5-7 mins he spent on my butt to be focus on my tired back and neck!

Question: Was the massage therapist being inappropriate?

Haha. I remember having a conversation with my father several years ago about gays being "natural". He would always say, "But it's so unnatural for them to do it that way. Sex should be about being able to have a child." I replied, "So how do you suppose a child gets produced when YOU have oral sex? Is that also unnatural?" That shut him up.
