It's a Catholic thing. I'm Irish, and have a larger sized family, but I don't attribute it to being Irish, nor feel the need to say anythign about it.

You just did!!

Now go make us a sammich.

LoL, I'm on the phone with Dell/Alienware ordering a computer and it turns out that I don't get this discount that I thought I would, so I tell the guy that since I'm not going to get the $150 discount that I thought I would that I would have to talk this over with my wife. Well aparently this set off alarms cause they have been offering all these other discounts that amount to what I was going to save with my discount

I think they think that if I talk to my wife that she will talk me out of buying it.

Funny thing is, my wife is more the impulse buyer, I'm the one who will usually hem and haw over a purchase for days or even weeks. If I was really going to talk to her to clear the purchase with her, she would tell: "just buy it, you know you want it, we'll sort out the details somehow".

It's the same with my wife and I, yeah.

It was really funny last week -- we've (I've!) been hemming and hawing about getting a Netflix-capable Blu-Ray player for awhile, and when I brought it up again last week she said, "Let's just hold off on that for now until we know our financial situation better." I couldn't stop laughing, because that has ALWAYS been my mantra with HER when she has wanted to buy a new table...or a new couch...or new artwork... But when it came to an electronics item she tossed my own words back at me, and I don't think she even noticed the irony. :P

Our neighbor's two dogs managed to open the gate to their yard last night. It happened while we were walking our dog past their house. So they came charging out barking at our dog, who barked back, and then one of them bit her. In a way it is karmic retribution---the family who tried to adopt Dallas from the shelter before we did had to return her because she bit their other dog---but it was scary.

It seemed okay last night, but this morning when a big chunk of Dallas's fur was HARD, I realized she must have been bleeding and found what looked like a small puncture wound. I took her to the vet, and they shaved her fur and cleaned it off. It was a bit nastier than I thought it would be but not too horrible.

Now I have a bit of a dilemma. The vet bill was $92 (mostly for antibiotics) and I know that is actually harder for my neighbor than for us. I certainly don't want her to have to go through her homeowners insurance and have them refuse to cover Ruby anymore or have a record of her as a "viscious" dog. Those dogs are like our dog---adopted from a shelter without a complete history. Our neighbor is going to put a combination lock on her gate to make sure the dogs can't open it again. On the other hand, it really should be her responsibility. We know our dog can't be trusted with other dogs and if she ever hurt someone's dog we would be the ones paying the bill. We do not let her out in the yard unsupervised at all, either, just on the remote chance she could jump the fence to chase a neighbor's cat (or get skunked....again).

Meh.

one of my dogs Brego is a great dane / lab mix. and he has figured out how to open the bathroom door, the bedroom door, how to lock them or us out with the patio doors, he has figured out how to open his dog cage which has 2 latches, he started doing this when he was a baby, 2 months old. he even figured out how to let lex my saluki out of his cage when he gets punished, Brego just goes over and nudges the latches and poof..out comes lex.

he is only 2 years old right now and it absolutely amazes me how smart he is. thats why our backyard has to be double locked and sescured and even have the gates blocked off so he can't even go near em. we just dont trust him. and it's my worst nightmare that they will get loose and get hit by a car or something.

My mom's dog, Jesse, was like that. My dog isn't exactly dumb as a box of rocks, but she is not the brightest star in the doggie constellation either. My greatest fear is that she will get out of the yard and either be hit by a car, get skunked (again), or kill one of the neighborhood cats.

I am not going to say anything about the vet bill unless she asks. My boss said she offered to pay her neighbor's vet bill when her dog attacked her neighbor's dog (the neighbor's dog got into my boss's yard) and the neighbor wouldn't take it. I won't be that noble, but I won't ask for it either. I'm really relieved that I do not have to put any ointment on her and then try to keep her from licking it.

This is one of those awkward situations. You're neighbor should have at a minimum offered to help, or pay the bill in full seeing as it was her inattentiveness and neglect that was the cause of the injury. It is good that she is taking preventative measures to make sure that it won't happen again. However, the fact remains, she spent $5 for a lock, meanwhile, you are stuck with a $92 bill. I know you don't want to be the mean person here seeing as there are much bigger implications involved. Did she even apologize or take responsibility for her mistake?

Considering we only had 2 wks notice about my husbands "vacation" I think it was enough time to get things done. We are newlyweds still this should be happening yet.... But it is.....it could be alot worse & it is for some..... only thing keeping me sane ATM is getting that call about the job offer, good friends & my puppy made a sad day a bit better & something to look forward to...

I haven't participated in this thread in a while, but right now I have a serious vent!

My "wedding" is May 1st. I have a couple of close friends who are real tight on money because they are both grad students. Varba's cousin kindly offered their spare room to my friends. I told her I was unsure if they were coming because of money issues. She said "Don't worry, your friends have first dibs! Family have lots of other places to stay."

Ok, so today my friends RSPV'd (yay). I told Varba's cousin that their coming and she said "Oh, we offered the room to Aunt Dee, sorry!"...

Seriously! Aunt Dee has tons of places to stay and I don't want to stick my friends with people I don't know.

Now I need to ask around to see if I can get my friends somewhere to stay... /sigh.

So, the hubster is still unemployed. Had a job interview earlier this week and found out today that they picked someone else. It's now been over 2 months since he lost his job. We're still waiting on filing AOS because I have to send away for yet ANOTHER copy of the stupid birth certificate... so that delays EVERYTHING, including me being able to work and me being able to get EI.

AND NOW, I decided I wanted to start playing my older Final Fantasy games again... I only have a PS2, and needless to say, I can't afford another gaming console. But I went to start playing one of them today and got 20 mins in only to find out that my memory card is broken and I can't save any games. And it's $25 to get a new one. $25 doesn't sound like a lot, but to me it sounds like a big waste right now. So I'm pissed, cause now I can't even play if I wanted to. I've also lost/given away/left behind my Kingdom Hearts game, but well, yeah, without a memory card it doesn't matter. ARGH.

/vent.
