Attorney or Website Help - What do you suggest?

I recently spoke to a man who married a woman from Vietnam. He said that after a few frusterating months of trying to figure everything out themselves, they went to an attorney to help. He recommended it. Now I'm wondering what is best - to find an attorney, or use a site like ezvisa.com. And if I want some outside help, how do I know who is the best option? I live in Phoenix, Arizona and am hoping to get married spring of next year - that gives me almost a year to do this... any suggestions?

Thanks a million!

Marie, you have a lot of time to get prepared, so I would suggest to do it yourself, unless your case is very complicated. I actually used EZVisa, and I am not very happy with the results. Many of the questions I asked them, did not return the correct answers. They have a 100% guarantee of approval. Well, be careful, because the approval they are talking about is not the final approval at the interview. It is the approval at the USCIS stage. This site is very resourceful and everyone here is full of information to help you. If you have questions when filling out papers or putting your package together, just ask and you will get several replies.

Good Luck!!!!

Thank you so much! I'm going to try to do this myself, I think - but if I run into anything too complicated, I'll look into an attorney. It's good to get real feedback about a site/service. I will start the process when I get back home to Arizona, but it's a little scary. I'll be sure to use this sight. Thanks again!

Do it yourself for sure. Attorney's can't speed up the process. And use an address in the Vermont Service area. Seems to go alot faster there. Good luck to you

16/10/2006- Interview date- I'm nervous and my fiance is cool calm and collective. And she's the one that has to do the interview.

Marie, I found all the information I needed for my (then) fiance's K1 visa right here on Visa Journey. I did not need to pay any money to an attorney or an immigration website. We are married now and awaiting his adjustment of status. I recommend that you take a look at the guide for the type of visa you will be applying for. (See the "Guides" tab at the top of this webpage.) That will give you an idea of what you need to put together the application package. And if you are with your sweetheart right now (since you mention that you are away from home!), you can start working on gathering some of the stuff you will need. (E.g. for the K1 visa, you need proof of having met in person within the past few years, so you would want to keep airline ticket stubs, hotel receipts, photos of the two of you together, etc.) Good luck!

Hi Marie,

Your friend who married a vietnamese probably needed a lawyer because of his situation and Ho-Chi-Minh Consulate specifically are the toughest post to get through with K-1 Visa due to the high level of marriage frauds.

I'm sure by now you have spent enough time to read throught FAQ's and Guides above, once or twice already. First thing first, download all the forms, read through, use the Example Forms to fill out your information and his. Come back on VJ for clarification if you need, I'm sure you will :)

No lawyer needed, I'm echoing everyong here! We can work with you to get through this.

Good luck and get ready for a fun filled emotional ride with Visa Journey :)

Cheers,

I hired a lawyer out of California and we had an awful experience. ( MICHAEL S. CHO) He delayed our case by months. He held onto our paperwork instead of mailing it in. He had me send him a personal check for the I864 when NVC only accepts certified or postal money orders and that took another month to get new bills. We were married in April and he finally sent our paperwork out in July. I was the one who called NVC to find out what was going on with our case and that was when I found out about the personal check he never checked up on anything. If I were you and you considered getting a lawyer check them out real good. If you do the paperwork your the one in charge of it all and you don't have to depend on a lawyer getting the paperwork to you and then worry about whether he is going to mail it out in a timely manner. The problem with a lawyer is that everything goes to them and then they mail it to you. I had our lawyer removed from the case it was a big waste of money for nothing but a headache. Good Luck

Hi from Brazil Marie!

Well, like Lynn&Arturo my fiance hired one "expensive" lawyer in California and we had a bad experience!

SHE made many mistakes on our forms and worse - believe or not: SHE spent almost one month to fill some

forms! To be exactly just the form to fill the process!

After finding this site, I figured out I had much more information than her! And SHE said she's been working with K1 more than 12 years...

I asked my fiance quit her :bonk: , and WE made together in one week what the Lawyer spent almost one month preparing it...

So, being honest we wasted time and money hiring a Lawyer... WE felt like a :jest:

If you follow all the steps posted here on this site, you'll be able to fill your process without any problem.

One friend gave me a tip to get a kind of "kit" with step by step, you can buy it for U$ 50,00, check it the link, we got this kit:

http://www.k1-marriage-visas.com/

Be sure you'll have all help here on this site, people here have good heart! Really!

Good luck and good vibes from Brazil! :star:

Actually, you have to send the application to the service center with jurisdiction over the state you live in. You don't get to choose which service center you want to use.

I don't know the contents of the kit Dinha mentions, but I take consists of forms? If so, there's no need to spend money on it. You can download the forms from the USCIS site and use the models VJ provides to help you fill them out.

Another good tip is read the guides provided by VJ. It will help you give you a general idea of how the process works and will make it easy for you to make a decision.

Like other posters said, if your case is simple, there shouldn't be a reason to hire an attorney. If you could provide us with more details of your story, we could help you even more.

Also, you may want to check this thread: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20197

Marie,

Like many other things in immigration and in life - it depends. There is no universally correct answer, every case if fact-specific.

Consulting with an attorney is almost always a wise investment - they tend to know what facts are significant and what are not, and they will inquire about the important details before rendering an opinion or advice. On the internet most questioners fail to provide the significant facts and most responders fail to ask for the significant facts before responding, in many cases because neither questioners nor responder know what the significant facts might be.

DON'T USE EZVISA!!!!!!!!!!

I did and have regretted it since!

He took our money and has been treating us like ####### ever since.

Forms were filled out wrong, I was given totally wrong info a number of times, and he has never apologized once for any of it.

The guy is a really piece of work and I wish I'd never given him my money.
