Depends on the pinay. Some get LOTS of pressure to send money to family.

I plan to continue to help once Merlaine is here, but I'm also trying to invest a little there to help them by buying some pigs. The family has a place they can raise them there in Samar. We're also looking into buying a rice field there. Not only will those things be a good income and investment for the family, but a good one for our future retirement there. I don't know if that's an option for you or not, but if possible it might be worth looking at.

We bought 2 lots. one with 2 "houses" and one next door and built a house on it. MIL amd FIL live in one. BILs and families live in the other 2.

All rent free. The family NEVER asks for anythng. We support moms and pops completely as they don't have wala.

Also help with the nieces and nephews schooling. Paid for sis in laws schooling and got sis in law CNA certificate also.

Also send vitamins and flouride for the kids.

I bought ten pigs for my family in the Philippines to raise and sell. We were partners to raise and sell them.

My husbands family over there is Upper Middle Class, I guess you would say, they got money. But of course we got "dollars" LOL....so we still send them money from time to time, especially his elderly dad and his only sister we send some dough over there. especially since the flood we sent them a lot of money and balikbabyan box full of stuff. Sometimes it can be overwhelming. Of course when hubby got here, everone was asking us blah blah blah we help them as much as we can, however we advised them we are just starting out in the states and it is expensive here to live. In any event, I will take everyone on a shopping spree when we go there in 2010 and treat my sisters in law to a day at the beauty spa , etc because there we can ..................................however , regarding your question, dont get suckered!

My family does not expect any support from my husband.

I (filipina) pays for the schooling of my niece and nephews in the philippines. And those money are all from my own savings not from my hubby.

My hubby is willing to support my family if needed. He was quite worried with the recent Ondoy typhoon and asked me if my family needs some financial help. I told him that its my family and i'm the one responsible to support them. They have been taken care of.

I would say, the expectation depends on the woman you are going to marry and the in laws.

Start looking for a bigger house. All the inlaws will be moving in with you over the next decade.
