What is the estimated total cost of the K1 Visa - broken down by each portion of the process? Here is what I know so far, as of October 28 2009.

I-129F Petition - $455

Non-Immigrant Visa Processing Fee - $131

Medical Examination - ??? (not sure what range to expect)

Miscellaneous Fees for Fingerprinting, Photos, Mailing Documents & Travel - varies ($50 - $125)

Please let me know if I am missing anything !

medical exam cost is country specific and varies greatly... since you don't indicate a country it is anyones guess so I will say anywhere from $100 - $500

The country is India - I just got engaged a few days ago so I'm a little slow to update my VJ profile !

Medical Examination will vary depending on the country. Blood Test, X Rates, if a women count the GNY too. Consider also any immunization shot may be missing. Then you medical visit for the doctor who will seal the package. You should visit the US Embassy in the country where the K-1 visa petitioner will be interviewed for a list of doctors and then contact them for rates.

Other expenses/fees you may be inquiring will be police records, translation of documents, fees to the embassy for the interview, tax for the return of passport and the list could go on but not to extensive.

I know you ask for #s, but not every country may have the same rates.

Hey, I'm not sure which Embassy you're going through so I just got it from the Delhi website which shows probably about the same fee's as the others.

I think you are light on your misc. fees. Translations? Easily $100, maybe more depending on how many documents she has. Express mailing can be more than $100 for one delivery for DHL or Fedex, check with them about packages to India, at minimum you will need to send the I-134 for the interview. Police certificate? Cheap in some countries, not so in others.

All in all, I want to say ours is going to be a minimum of $2500, from start to finish, and probably closer to $2600-2700.

Before entry (~$1110):

* $485 (I-129F, including him mailing his documents to me, and me sending it to USCIS, and extra copies of digital photos)

* ~$325 (medical) <- but your mileage will vary on this, looks like it'd be more like $50+immunizations for India

* ~$225 (travel to/from Rio) <- again, depends on how close she is to the interview location

* $131 (K1 visa interview)

After the marriage ($1390):

* $1050 (AoS, mailing the AoS to USCIS, ordering the marriage certificate)

* $340 (EAD, work authorization after the marriage, while waiting for the green card)

This doesn't include the costs of the fees for the police certificates/birth certificate/military records, of the courier to bring the passport back to him, or of the marriage. It also doesn't include advanced parole requests, which we're not doing. That also doesn't include translations, but at least in Brazil for the (failed - insufficient ties) tourist visa, they didn't seem to require anything in Portuguese be translated to English.

I think all of the fees you guys are mentioning above do not even include those she sponsor must send to the foreign fiancee in order to take care of things on his/her end, right? For example, my friend is in the Philippines, where a vast majority of the population has little to no money. How much should I expect to have to send her during this (K1) process. Would you say I'm looking at about $4000 spent, once all is said and done? Is my guess too high, too low?

The answer to your question is entirely situational. It would be foolish for us to assume even who is going to pay the in-country expenses or even any of the expenses related to immigration, much less day to day living expenses. While it's common for USC petitioners to contribute to their foreign loved ones' well being particularly in the poorer countries, it is certainly not universally true. We also can't estimate travel expenses for either party.

What IS certain is that it's going to cost several thousand dollars with travel usually being the largest expense category.
