Evening Yardies!

Congrats Portland on the new home!

Hope you feel better soon Cat.

Hubby had his first dentist appt today. They had to extract an upper molar that was in really bad shape & he'll be needing the bridge which will run about $3000! Can you believe something like that can cost so much??? I'm trying not to freak out about money since my dental plan only covers dependents for a maximum of $1000 per calendar year AND bridges are only covered at 50%. That means more than $2000 needs to come out of my pocket for one tooth! Lord help me! I don't know how people manage sometimes & I really don't know how I'll work this out but I suppose the payment plan through the dental office making $200 payments a month until it's paid off. Makes me really want to get a better job but that's a whole other monster. Oh well, I'll manage....maybe it's time to find illicit activities that pay big and fast!

On a better note, we got a letter (unexpectedly) in the mail today for our AOS interview. We have our interview on December 8th. I've been checking status & haven't seen anything new indicated on line but here it is! Now time to prepare...get all the docs & pictures together & try to prep ourselves for the types of questions we may get at the interview.

How do some women work a full time job, fix dinner, manage the house, take care of children, have time for their husbands, and STILL have time for themselves???

I think 2 of these 6 is PLENTY.

-----

According to a lot of these Christian-based books/audio on marriages, women are not primarily DESIGNED to work full time jobs & don't get the same satisfaction men do from working. Husbands should understand that if their wives are putting energy into work, they won't have as much energy to do all the things they were actually designed to do.

Do you agree or disagree?

(Not that Friday afternoon is the best time to start a discussion.)

I don't know if I'm in total agreement with the Christian theories on gender roles but maybe to a small degree would I agree. I'm very contradicted on that because I'd have to disagree about the statement that women don't get the same satisfaction from a job. I think it just depends on the kind of job. I know there are dream jobs for me that would give me a lot of satisfaction...those jobs just aren't very plentiful.

But as far as how women manage their time and lives....that one has me stumped. I'm sure it's all about time management, prioritizing & flexibility. Sometimes you get to have time for yourself and other times you don't amongst other things you have to balance and alternate. Add to that women (like a few of our yardies) who also add school to the mix! I'm in awe and admiration (just so you know ladies)! I really don't know how you do it. But Nat, I'm surprised to read this concern from you of all people. You seem like quite the wonderwoman to me. You are our spreadsheet queen after all! From what I can tell, you are very meticulous and seem to manage your time very well. I thought I was the only one who felt a whole new level of overwhelmed (not really...I know many of us feel this way but you know...) after becoming a married woman trying to spend enough time with her husband and still handle everything else....even without kids in the mix.

Thanks, Ells! & Congrats on the interview date. That's right around the corner!

My occasional feelings of overwhelmed-ness are more due to work life & spill over into home life. It just so happens that I was given another person's full time responsibilities, in ADDITION to my current responsibilities, right after Steven moved here. (Came with nice raise, so no complaints.) So I'm dealing with a learning curve there where everything is taking WAAAAY longer than it will once I get the hang of it. But I know it's only short-term.

--------

As far as women working, I know that I'd love to work part time instead of full time. That would definitely give me more time to do stuff at home (I might would even get rid of the housekeeper!) and more sleep time. But I don't know if that wish is due to me being a woman, or just my personal preference.

Well Nat, anything is possible. Im raising children, working full time, going to school part-time and getting married. You can do anything you put your mind too. You just have to remember to have some alone time every now and then so you don't lose it.

Nothing like a good relax, relate and RELEASE!!!

amen sista

Nat;

My aunt is in a LDR (married) I think it's 25 years now; raised 5 kids here in states/put them through college -- husband still in Jamaica, had her own business and finished her college education...I asked her how she managed and she told me she had to make and TAKE time for herself...

I want to sleep but I have about a few of my cousins comming in from Jamaica tonight plane should land in a few minitues...I can't wait to sink my teeth in the goodies.

I agree, thats an important part of it. To make time for yourself. You also have to be goal oriented and determined. I tell my kids that all the time. It gets a little better when they get older too. you can rely on them to help you more too!

Congrats on the interview Ells...Thank you. Also, we must utillize our husbands to help too. You can't go into this thinking you are a superwoman.. For me, Im glad to have Steve here because he helps me a lot, even being here for a short period of time. He is falling into a routine of things nicely. My life seems more fullfilling now. Its great to have someone who supports you. For those of you who don't have children yet, you will find time and balance for what you need to do. My kids are 18 and 14 and they help alot. You dont see it when they are young because they need you more than ever, but as they get older you'll appreciate it better! So have faith in yourselves that you can do it! :)

@ Ells Congrats on the interview!

@ Ms. Tee - I agree it totally has to do with determination. I am raising a 7 year old, work full-time, finishing up my Masters, planning a wedding and trying to maintain a work-out schedule  I started working on my Masters two years ago and wondered how I would manage it all. But two years later, its like second nature to me. You just have to focus and really manage your time. I know it sounds pretty #######, but there were times that I had to make a checklist of things to do in the evening. Especially when my daughter started kindergarten and started having homework! After a while everything becomes second nature. There are definitely times, when certain areas of my life suffered such as: Spending quality time with my daughter, attending church regularly, but I never allowed taking care of myself to suffer. I still travel, hang out with friends, get hair/nails done. Once you stop taking care of yourself, other areas start to suffer.

For those of us that are single parents, having a husband come along is like God sent. Especially, if he is willing to help with cooking, cleaning or taking care of the kids. Even if he takes one of these tasks, its one less task off the list of tasks that we've always done.

Ok Yardies!!!

I often peek in and read the posts on a daily basis. I even post some questions and love the advise and support that each and everyone of you give. I was trying my hardest not to actually join in with the discussions, but I just can't help it. Yall pulled me in!!! :star:

Portland--Congrats on the New Home!! I know how it feels, I bought my home on Nov 11, 2008. And it was wonderful. Wish I had my man here to be excited with me.. So absorb it all up. Congrats!!!!

Nat--I think I will keep the Spanish cleaning lady if she does good job. Prob suggest buying a translation dictionary.

And my thoughts on a working woman.... I love to work. especially now since fiance isn't here. Keeps me busy. I don't have any kids in the mix though. I think the more I get closer to that reality, my feelings will change. When my fiance gets here, I am still going to be busy. I work 4 10hr days and I am a basketball referee so busy at least 4 evenings out of the week and I am very active at my church. Oh lets not forget that I am a full time student as well.

Jamerican Queen-- You look good girl. You were a beautiful bride and still a beautiful woman.

And to Ellis--Congrats on your interview date. and don't let the money issues get in the way. The Lord will Always Make A Way!!! (F)

Another Mama Jew on the way!!!!!

Hey Girl!!!! Shoot I wish I had some sexy parties planned but I don't have anyone to have a sexy party with :crying: .......

No I'm taking a break while I get my house in order. I feel I need to make sure this divorce is finalized before I continue to have fun. Ya know? But I must admit its harder than what I thought but I know with determination I'll be alright. Shoot I say that now but in a month I'll be climbing the walls. Just the other day my mailman was looking good and he is damn near in his 60's... LOL

So what are you doing on here? You should be having some sexy parties yourself.
