My patient fiancee is on her 2nd day at SLMC...

The question for those that have already done this...Is it normal for the examining physician to ask about marriage history like her annulment? Reason for separation? She was asked to bring her annulment papers today (2nd day).

We were kind of upset because this is a medical examination and see no relevance why this information is needed unless you good people can tell me?? Other than for gossip use? I didn't see this in the requirements to bring to the medical exam.

We felt we should have asked questions but just swallowed our pride so that she can finish her exams.

Just sharing and maybe someone here has gone through the same thing..it really feels like invasion of privacy.

Well during the medical in PI they like to get deep into your business, if they see scratches they start asking ??'s about suicide. So I would guess they are trying to determine if she is stable after her annulment/divorce and if she may need to see a head doctor. Just tell her to answer their ??'s and be as pleasant and sure of herself as she can.

I found that surprising also, but there is a reason for it.

They asked me how my previous marriage to Pippo's dad was terminated and the reason. Our grounds for annulment was for psychological incapacity. The doctor asked me if I was the Petitioner or the Respondent.

I can only believe this is for documentation in case Pippo's father applies for a visa in the future...I don't think they will let anyone into the U.S. with a documented record of drug use, violence or mental problems...can anyone clarify?

I had all my papers with me on both days in case they need anything.

At releasing, I was asked why my previous name was different from the name on my birth certificate and medical records. I explained why (annulment), and they asked for my annulment papers also. It's a good thing I had them.

That is Embassy specific.

The USEM, if you admit drug use then your banned for life

Some other Embassys will still let you have Visa.

I find this type of situation to be standard in PI.

People in autorithy take advantage of woman in PI. Police Officers / Doctors / etc.

In USA if a Doctor starts asking a bunch of "out of line" questions like that, he may just end up getting his ####### whooped and the beaten up.

Yeah, the physician also asked me about my educational attainment .. I just answered it anyways altho I find it kinda unnecessary. Anyhoo, regarding the OP's question, it is normal.. it would be a basis for psychological matters, whether or not the applicant is the one with a history of psychological instability or something like that...

You just gotta answer them with all honesty and give them what they ask, you won't get delayed that much anyway, they process stuff during the day so it's gonna be fine ;) Good luck!

Thanks all for the replies..I guess I also got used to the ways here in the U.S. Doctors do not ask those type of things unless they were "shrinks".

I see the Psychological aspect. :)

Anyways...she's done and just answered and provided everything they asked. Thank GOD that's over.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE :)
