K-1 Passport Requirement

My fiance (who is in India) does not currently have an Indian passport.

I looked into the details and it can take anywhere from 10 days (urgent request) to 30 days (normal) to get a brand new passport issued to a local citizen.

My question is whether I should to start the K1 process until she is actually formally issued a passport or whether I can go ahead and start the K1 process while she is applying for her Indian passport at the same time?

Are there any complexities or problems that could arise from the fact that she will be issued a valid passport 10-30 days AFTER the K1 process is started?

Thanks !

None at all, all they ask is for a passport that is good at least 6 months past the date she will enter, so you can start it now or laster if you like as long as she has it in time for the interview :D

File the petition. she will not need the passport until her interview, 6 months or so down the road.

Agree with Gary...it's gonna be awhile before she will actually need one.
