whoever said talk is cheap sure doesn't have to pay your phone bill!

Apparently it's the Filipino way  We sent money to her parents because their water and electric was about to be shut off so what did they do? they bought a camera

Its not a filipino way. Its an irresponsible move that any people can do, filipino or whatever nationality.

Jasman,

Normally, if a person has been exposed to a certain amount of money and suddenly have more that he/she used to. Most of the time, they dont know how to handle the money.

Guess, this is the thing happening to claudeth and her family. And its up to you to control it. If you want to help them, you have tp control it until they know how to do it.

Just my 2 cents. Input based on my previous training on handling money.

Its not like they have been exposed to any additional money, we help when we can afford to. It just seems very irresponsible to spend the money on something you don't need when there are critical issuse to deal with. This isn't the first time nor the only Filipino family have I seen this behavior with plus my sister, who was in the Phlippines back in the 50s for 3 years, describes behavior she observed that is very similar to what we are seeing so it certainly isn't an isolated incident.

I must agree with rheanick, its not a Filipino way.

Not to offend your wife or her fmaily but is there anybody in her family back in the Philippines who is working? How come their water and electric bill is still your responsibility? Dont enable them so they will learn to stand on their feet and not depend on you.

Anyhow, goodluck to you...obviously your wife has some issues that you need to deal with.

 does the camera come with an electrical plug in and a tap?

What does it mean when a Filipino tells you 'it just happened' when they did something like spend too much or was gone too long or whatever?

What does it mean when a Filipino tells you 'it just happened' when they did something like spend too much or was gone too long or whatever?

In golf terms, it means play the ball as it lies or play the course as you find it! My husband says he'll be at El Prado next Saturday and he might join you and Claudeth at the 19th hole.

Gosh, I sure wish I could go! I have been having some sort of health issue where my muscles get tired and achy anytime I try to do something physical. I haven't played golf, went to the gym or did my daily walks in over 2 months. I have been to a specialist but he doesn't have a clue so I guess I am going to be my own doctor now (does that make me and my patient fools  ) Anyway, I am going to stop some meds I have been taking to see what happens.

By the way, there is a men's club tournament Saturday that starts at 7:30 so I assume he would be teeing off after about 9:20 or so.

Yeah, the missus is right, my friends and I will be at the Chino Creek course on Saturday. Our tee time is 11:51.

I hope you get well soon as I can't wait for you to give me five a side. With the weather getting cooler now, I think you need to limber up and have those muscles stretched. I ain't no doctor but have heard through the grapevine that pills for high cholesterol cause muscular pain. So, if you are on them now, you might want to stop and see what happens. Just watch your diet, have plenty of exercise and have sex at least 3 times a week!

Darn, I am sorry I am going to miss you. The problem is that whatever is going on won't allow me to do anything physical. I can't go to the gym, do my daily walks or play golf. I was hitting the gym 3 tyo 4 days a week, walking 8 miles a day and walking the course carrying my back up until about April and at that point I had to stop the long walks and carrying my bag. Then in August I found I couldn't even ride and play golf, walk around the block or do anything at the gym.

After conferring with my family doctor when I was in my teens I made a decision to stop taking a some of the medications perscribed by my primary care physician, I think he is a pill pusher. If this works I will post a new thread in the 'Philippines' forum to let you know the bozo is BACK!

It sure doesn't appear that anyone in her extended family is very responsible, well, maybe an Aunt in Germany that that is only because the husband is very strict with the finances. The minute Claudeth and I hooked up her Dad 'lost' his job that he had for over 20 years. Hummmmm! Now all he does is play basketball and lounge. Funny people! I have tried to help them but have now stopped, I am having a hard enough time teaching Claudeth to be responsible. I think I might be loosing  Charles understands

"What does it mean when a Filipino tells you 'it just happened' when they did something like spend too much or was gone too long or whatever?"

That mean " Whatever, I know you love me enough to sucked it up " LOL. But hey, Think I never done that....

About her Family... If she's really mature and responsible... And care about what you gonna think and feel about what her family doing with the money that you sending them... She should talk to her family and tell them how shamefull already it is that you sending them money... So what more if they spending that money left and right to a non-sense things.

I love my family soo much and I love my husband sooo much too.... And the last thing I want to happen is to lose my husband respect to my family just because of money. That will break my heart  . So I tried to make it balance by getting a job  . Now I feel less awkward everytime my husband telling me that it's time of the month to send money in Philippines LOL. But I still ask if it's his turn or my turn lol. SImple as that.... and I wanna keep it that way. So... Mama, Papa......... watch the money talk both of you next month  (joke).

I hope your wife not spoiling her family by how the way they spend those money that you sending as your help with them.

Unfortunately Claudeth is 28 going on 9  but I am trying my best to teach her financial responsibility. I plan to finance a business in the Philippines the will sustain her after I am gone so need to make sure she understands all the concepts and practices of running a business. I tried this with her family but they have eaten and spent their way out of their store.

We have stopped giving her family money regularly. When we did that they just blew it on ####### they didn't need and let the essentials slip (hum, reminds me of Claudeth  ) Now we send money when they are totally desparate and even then they don't act responsibly. Last time they were on the verge of loosing their water and electricity they bought a camera. Duh
