I am a little confused, do I need to submit the original documents with the DS-230? My husband is sending me back the completed and signed DS-230. Also, do i need to have his police reports, medical, etc. t accompany the submission? Please help.

in a word, yes.

AT NVC - when yer submitting the DS-230 - there's a set of 'other documents' to supply, in ORIGINAL form plus a PHOTOCOPY. (No attestation required for that copy ).

Birth Certificate, Police Check, Marriage Certificate, Divorce Certificates (If any, both yours and his )

IIRC, the Medical is done in his country, after NVC is 'through' with it's processing - I've never heard of medical reports being submitted during the NVC Processing Stage.

Here's a list ?

Birth Certificate

Court and Prison Records

Deportation Documentation

Marriage Certificate

Marriage Termination Documentation

Military Records

Photocopy of Valid Passport Biographic Data Page

Police Certificate(s)

Custody Documentation

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Darnell has it right. However, if for some reason you don't have the original document for the birth or marriage certificates, the NVC will accept certified copies. Key word being "certified".

Moniq,

I'm filing for CR-1 at the lagos consulate and I just submitted the Ds-230 package last Friday.

What you would need to submit the following for the D2-230 for your husband:

  1. DS-230 part I and II - Make sure he only signs part I.
  2. Police Certificate - He can get this at:

    The Deputy Inspector General

    Criminal Investigation Department

    Nigerian Police Force

    Alagbon Close

    Ikoyi, Lagos

    Nigeria

  3. Original Marriage Certificate
  4. Original Birth Certificate
  5. Copy of biographic Page of Passport
  6. Divorce certificate (if he's been married before) - This didn't apply to me
  7. 2 passport photographs

Once you get all the documents, make a photocopy of the set and send with your original documents. It's advisable to make a set of everything for your spouse and yourself as well.

The medical at Kamorass clinic is not needed at this time. The time to do that is when your file has been closed by NVC, an interview date has been granted and your file has been forwarded to the Lagos consulate.

7/07/09 - Sent I130

When they ask fot "originals" they are the same thing as a certified copy from the government agency that issued the "original". :bonk:

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

Hey MOB. They are supposed to return the originals back to you at the time of the interview. If you can get 2 originals, that would be optimal. In my case, I was unable to, so I formally requested them to return the originals to my husband at the time of the interview on the personal cover sheet I attached to the DS-230 package listing all the supporting documents that I submitted. I believe that there is a formal form to request originals back, but I'm not sure what it is. Just make copies of everything. They should return at the interview.
