Interview Preparation Questions

Our interview has been scheduled recently but I have a lot of questions in regards to preparing for the interview, I hope to get your advice on this.

Things I know we should do:

1) Get medical exam done and bring the report to the interview

2) 2" x 2" photo for beneficiary (4?)

Questions

1) Do I need to bring the original interview appointment letter or can I print the one sent to me via email?

2) In the table listing documents requested by the NVC, all our document status are either C, Y, O, or F. So does that mean we don't have to bring any documents anymore? (I have listed the table below)

CORRESPONDENCE INSTRUCTIONS C

IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION Y

DS-230-II Y

PASSPORT Y

BIRTH CERTIFICATE O

ADOPTION F

MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE O

MARRIAGE TERMINATION F

COURT RECORDS F

FINANCIAL EVIDENCE Y

CUSTODY PAPERS F

MILITARY RECORDS F

CANADA POLICE CERTIFICATE O

CHINA - MAINLAND POLICE CERTIFICATE O

FEE PAYMENT F

PHOTOGRAPH Y

PETITIONER MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE F

PETITIONER BIRTH CERTIFICATE F

3) Do I need to bring the tax transcript for 2009? (I have mailed in my tax return paperwork when I filed earlier a few months ago because the transcript isn't available yet) If so does it have to be tax returns or transcripts will do?

4) What else am I missing? Any advice on how we should be prepared for the interview?

5) Am I being interviewed as well? Will I (petitioner) be present at the interview with the beneficiary (my wife)?

6) US Embassy in Montreal allows that we bring an interpreter with us. Can I be my wife's interpreter or must I hire a professional interpreter?

Thanks for your help!

Things I know we should do:

1) Get medical exam done and bring the report to the interview

2) 2" x 2" photo for beneficiary (4?) You need to bring two front-view color photographs with a white background of the immigrating spouse

Questions

1) Do I need to bring the original interview appointment letter or can I print the one sent to me via email? If you have both then bring both. It couldn't hurt. My husband brought the one we got through email.

2) In the table listing documents requested by the NVC, all our document status are either C, Y, O, or F. So does that mean we don't have to bring any documents anymore? (I have listed the table below)

CORRESPONDENCE INSTRUCTIONS C

IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION Y

FINANCIAL EVIDENCE Y

CUSTODY PAPERS F

PETITIONER BIRTH CERTIFICATE F

I am not sure what this list is. I think it's the list of things you need to bring with you to the interview? Not sure what the C,Y,O,F are though. More information on what visa you are applying for would help

3) Do I need to bring the tax transcript for 2009? (I have mailed in my tax return paperwork when I filed earlier a few months ago because the transcript isn't available yet) If so does it have to be tax returns or transcripts will do? I don't think tax transcripts are available for 2009 yet. You will definitely need your taxes returns for 2009. Take your copies with your w-2s.

4) What else am I missing? Any advice on how we should be prepared for the interview? Take evidence to prove that your marriage is bonafide

5) Am I being interviewed as well? Will I (petitioner) be present at the interview with the beneficiary (my wife)? Not sure. Each embassy is different. Maybe someone from Canada can answer this question.

6) US Embassy in Montreal allows that we bring an interpreter with us. Can I be my wife's interpreter or must I hire a professional interpreter? Not sure. Maybe someone from Canada can answer this question. Otherwise call the embassy and ask them.

Thanks for your help!

Since 2009 is not over yet, I assume you haven't filed your 2009 taxes yet so no, you don't need your 2009 tax transcripts. 2008 however, you will need

NO - you cannot be your wife interpreter (for obvious reasons). If your wife's language is French, check with the embassy (since Canada is a bilingual country they might be able to accomodate you). If your wife does not speak English, you may be interviewed to establish a common language between you both.

Good luck.

If you've submitted the originals to NVC then you are fine. You will get those back at the interview.

I would bring your W-2s (if not already submitted to NVC) and your most recent tax transcrip (assuming NVC has all your tax info anyway from the AOS packet)

Good luck.

What did you submit for the I-864 at NVC?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Thanks Darnell.

As noted in the list (descriptions listed below), I submitted original birth cert, original marriage cert and police certs from China and Canada.

For I-864, I submitted a copy of the income tax return I submitted to IRS.

Let me know if I am missing anything? It seems like all I need to bring with me is the medical exam and anything that can serve as proof of bonafide marriage.

A = Applicant must acquire this document and present it at the time of the interview.

C = Direct inquiries to your consulate / embassy

F = This form is not necessary for this application.

^^Agree.

You do not need the I-864.

We interviewed in Montreal and were not asked for any of the forms or documents previously submitted, however, we did bring copies just in case.

Because we completed NVC prior to April 15 we had only submitted tax transcripts up to the 2007 tax year. As a result we were asked for the 2008 tax year return at the interview (which was in May.)

My husband was present with me in the interview room. While they did not ask him to take the oath they did ask him questions regarding his employment and experiences crossing the border. So while the petitioner may not be "formally " interviewed that does not mean they will not be asked questions.

Best of luck!

When I called the embassy to re-schedule my interview date, I've been told to bring originals of required documents at the interview just in case NVC didn't send them to the embassy. They didn't require them translated and legalized as our certified copies were. I was asked about the originals at the day of my interview, although they gave me back the certified copies (the ones we sent to NVC) after the interview. Your choice

p.s. what I meant was tax transcripts, not tax returns, and also have a copy of I-864 at the day of the interview. I just printed the one my husband sent me via e-mail, although it was not signed... and it was still OK

Hi Ani, could you list all the things you bring with you to the interview? What was asked of you during the interview? I am not sure what originals I should bring with me as I have sent most of them to NVC already.

Hi OBX, why was your husband asked about his employment and border crossing? What does that have anything to do with your immigration?

Why do we need to bring the I-864 support form? We already submitted that to NVC.

If you've submitted the originals to NVC then you are fine. You will get those back at the interview.

I would bring your W-2s (if not already submitted to NVC) and your most recent tax transcrip (assuming NVC has all your tax info anyway from the AOS packet)

Good luck.

Hi maisflocon, we received the same email from NVC with the list of documents already submitted and on page 2 of the mail there was the list of what to bring, basically the meds report and the pictures. I did hand in all the originals so at the interview i will only have copies (I got 2 RFEs for my originals) so clearly they have them now. I am going into the interview with proof of bonafide relationship, meds report and pics, I called the embassy here to confirm they dont expect anything else and they said what i have is fine, i know embassies are different. I think we'll be fine, relax and good luck.
