Our K1 petition just left NVC bound for the US Embassy in Mumbai.. I have been reading posts saying that once you know your petition has been received by the consulate you can contact them re: setting your interview appointment. My question is do you have to contact them to schedule the appointment or does my fiance have to wait until he receives packet 3 and 4 before the interview can be scheduled?

lara&pawan,

The Embassy themselves will shcedule you your appointment.

Once you get Packet 3 and return the 'DS-230' and 'Applicants Statement' (which verifies that you have obtained all required documentation), then the Embassy will mail you the packet 4 with your interview date. :)

You can actually download the Packet 3 and 4 from the Embassy's website rather than wait for it. You may if you want start on Packet 3 now if you want to be ahead, especially when getting the PCC from the passport office.

My documents were also sent to Mumbai Consulate and I'm getting ready for Packet 3 and just want to make sure I send the right information. I found this information on this page: http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/ivforms.html

What did you send in the packet 3? This is what I believe needs to be sent...

1. DS 230: http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/81807.pdf (part ONE only - first 2 pages)

2. DS 2001: http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/uploads/-F/J...xFQ/DS_2001.pdf

3. Checklist: http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/media/pdf-vi...k1_packet_3.pdf

What is the address that you sent the Packet 3 to?

I know these are a lot of questions, but any help you can provide would really be helpful.

Thanks, Divyesh

Yes but then on the Consulate info page on VJ it says this address:

Lincoln House

78, Bhulabhai Desai Road

Mumbai – 400026

India

So I want to get confirmation from someone that has already sent the Packet 3?

What does 'especially when getting the PCC from the passport office' mean?

You go to your local Passport office and submit your passport for which they will give you a reciept. They will in turn do a background check on you. Once the background check is completed, the passport office will return your passport along with your PCC (Police Clearance Certificate.

As this takes longer than the 'Local PCC', you should get started on it once you gotten your letter from the NVC. (The PCC's are recognized by the Embassy as valid for one year).

The check list is for your benefit only. You don't send the check list in. That's what the Applicants Statement (DS 2001) is for, your signature acknowledges that you have 'in your possession' these items and verifies that you are now prepared for the Embassy to complete processing on your case, at which point they will schedule you your interview date.
