Hmmm I have been member of these forums for 2 years now and Asia:South always seems to be so quiet, I really wonder why?

Can't people be more active here, not just immigration talks but a bit of chit-chat and mundane talks? No Eid mubarak? No Happy Dashera?

And what's with people not saying thank you once you have gotten your answer? Now I am not saying everyone does that, but sadly a lot of you do that and it breaks my heart into million little pieces :(

Well I just hope we can have more talks around in this subforums, desis helping other desis on adjusting to the new life in USA, about things going back in their home country.

Well blast away!

Trinket - more general chat threads, if you will??? I'm game.

Happy Dussehra [now for my Hindu ignorance to show - is that the same as the Durga Puja celebrations going on around Delhi this weekend?]. And a belated eid Muburak!

This forum does sometime read a little business-minded [efficient, short answers, frequently without the thanks]. I think we went thru a time span where a lot of the posters were guys looking for nuts and bolts type info and not people waxing away about adjusting to life in the US or relationship issues - which seem to populate some forums here.

It shocks me there isn't even a cricket thread given the apparent obsession in India at least...

Maybe we should just open a bunch of threads and see what happens.

Hello Trinket! I remember you from posts before. You joined the forum just a couple months after us. I want to say a big THANKS for everyone here who gave such great advice and support during this process. You all are great!!

Hubby has been in USA for over 2 years now, and just recently got his 10-year green card. He will probably apply for Citizenship next year. It has been a little hard. He hasn't been able to find work in his field (accounting). He's just been a gas station clerk since coming. :( There aren't many job opportunities where we are, and he's only been trying for jobs by networking with other Indians, that hasn't been so successful. It works better in India than here! We both miss India and want to return to live there in a few years - that will be possible with a OCI card for him and a PIO card for me.

Hubby hasn't ever shown interest in this forum but if I see a cricket thread maybe he will comment! He loves cricket and all the cinemas! What about all the cinemas from India available online only a day after being released in India? That is taking his attention away from giving more job applications.

Happy Dasara Everyone! :D

Catknit-- Yes Dashera is Durga puja. I am bengali so I was more inclined to say it Durga puja but I know most out here say it as Dashera :P.

And yes you are right, it seems like most who do ask questions in these forums are people who just found this site and looking for a quick immigration related answer.

About cricket.........well sadly I stopped watching cricket years ago. You know all that match fixing scandal and all....or my heart was set to marry Ajay Jadeja

ELW--Happy Dashera to you too :)

I understand how your husband is going through with the job situation, its kind of same with me too, I am working through a temp job agency for now and its not the work I ever imagined I would do, but I am bored to wits of staying at home all these months and do want to earn a bit, every bit does count.

Kaushalia -- :P how could you forget my old name but its cool, i am no more -- meloveyoulongtime. I was actually waiting for my name to be changed and post this thread, so people could take me a bit seriously

Ok, here is the thing, over the next few days I will post a few chit-chat type of threads and see how it goes, if people really chime in or not. I really wish more people would be active in these forums, we have many Indians out here, you can share things. I wish I could have talked to more desis during my adjustment days in US, like where to buy the cheap desi groceries from to what they think of lack of horn sounds on the roads

 when husband calls on his way home from work and i don't hear the horns honking in the background, i am always inclined to ask if he is still in the office.

we will always have the glitter even though, it has long been a thread of the past

i am glad you are chiming up the south asia, because lately, i just hang out in the off topic. got to have something to occupy my should be working time :innocent:

Hello ELW,

Has your husband tried taking some courses in a local Community college or university? That is a great way for him to network with more career-minded people... you know what I am saying?? Also they usually have good career fairs and job placement programs.

Just a suggestion because in my case this has helped me a lot.

Nina

I as everyone else very much agree with you, for instance there just isn't enough members from India talking to each other enough (except maybe in private messages) and we really should.

I'm ready to bond! (L)

Thank you Nina. :) Actually hubby has been going to English as Second Language classes since arriving in USA, now his English is vastly improved from what it was before (he never attended English medium schools in India), however, he is shy so didn't make any friends all that time in classes. He obtained a college credit equivalency certificate from IERF (http://www.ierf.org/) which he hopes will help him get a degree here in USA too, that will help the job search. He went to only one job fair locally but nothing came of it. Now finally he is taking driving classes so being independently mobile will help the job search too.

Happy Friday everyone!!!! Does anybody have any plans for the weekend? My husband and I are planning on going to the local county fair because I love carnivals.

Happy friday to everyone too :)

We plan on playing dominoes, I kicked my husband's a$$ last night on the game and plan to do so again tonight

Out in our city Fall festival is going to start, from what I heard it is the second largest street festival in USA after mardi grass. I am excited about it, its starts from Monday and our house is only 3 blocks away from where its happening. They have all these food stalls with weird foods, roaches, worms, ostrich eggs.........I will be in heaven
