I know it's surprising that I got a 10-yr GC when I'm supposed to get a 2-yr since I'm on a K1.
I talked to this Dominican guy that is friends with my hubby and he said that now I had the 10-yr GC, I'm eligible to get a US passport.
Can this be true?
I hope anybody here could enlighten us.

Thanks!

You must be a US citizen or a refugee in order to get a US passport.

International Travel as a Permanent Resident

What do I need to travel outside the United States?

A permanent resident (green card holder) can travel freely outside of the United States. A passport from your country of citizenship or your refugee travel document is often necessary to travel to another country and to reenter the United States. Also, the country you are visiting may have additional entry requirements (such as a visa).

My wifes first green card was also 10 year and after I posted here on this forum immigration contacted us to say they made mistake. We had to return the 10 year and wait a couple weeks for the 2 year.

Your hubby's friend is wrong you have to be a PR resident for 3 years and married to same USC before you can file for Naturalization (base on marriage) and then apply for US passport later on. First is returning your 10 year GC since it's a mistake and you don't have to anything anyway since its USCIS error. Good luck! good.gif
