Visa Name?!?

Hi Friends,

I received my K1 Visa yesterday-25/09/09. But they have printed my full name as my surname and my given name as FNU. (e.g. Surname- Kudrat Brar

Given Name- FNU). :unsure::innocent:

What does this mean? Can it cause any problem at POE or in future? If yes,how and where to rectify it.

I 129F Sent -29-12-2008

I 129F NOA1 -10-01-2009

I 129F NOA2 -15-07-2009

Packet 3 Received- 17-07-2009

Packet 3 Sent- 22-07-2009

Packet 4 Received -30-08-2009

Medical Interview - 05-09-2009

Documents deposited at VFS -08-09-2009

K1 Visa Interview- 17-09-2009, APPROVED! :)

K1 Visa Issued - 22-09-2009

K1 Visa Received- 25-09-09

P.O.E- J.F.K on 11-11-2009

Wedding-17-11-2009

A.O.S Application sent on 13-12-2009

Date it was received-17-12-2009

Biometrics-12-01-2010

Replied 1st RFE for I693- 25-01-2010

I-797C-Case transferred to CSC-29-01-2010

EAD Approved- 8-02-2010

AP approved- 8-02-2010

2nd RFE for Delayed registration of birth certificate-18-03-2010

Replied 2nd RFE 0n 28-04-2010; 1 day before the deadline to answer;)(had lost RFE document)

GC production ordered-05-05-2010, after 4months, 22 days!!!!!!!!

GOT THE REMOVAL OF CONDITIONS ON GC, AND PERMANENT GC APPROVAL-20 NOV, 2012

GOT PERMANENT GC ON 26TH NOV, 2012

AND THE LIFE GOES ON, BEAUTIFULLY... :)

FNU stands for First Name Unknown.

Check your first and last names on your passport.

It is possible the names on the visa were put in according to the names on the passport.

Try googling "FNU visa." There seems to be a lot of people having the same issue.

I would correct the name discrepancy at the US embassy before moving to the US.

It sounds you would have hard time getting a DL if the given name is FNU.

In the passport, the surname column is blank, given name column has full name.

In the visa, the surname column has full name, given name has FNU.

Correct name has both first name and a surname. How to rectify it before i leave for U.S?

Correct name has both first name and a surname. How to rectify it before i leave for U.S?

I am not 100% sure about the process, but first go fix the name on your passport at wherever you got it.

Then request for correction of your name on the visa at the US embassy.

Has anyone gone through the same? Please help. InIndia, correction of passport is no longer done. You need to get a new passport instead...

Hi, I read your issue about the FNU Problem I am faceing FNU Situation in US. What did you do to overcome this problem ?

Service Center: Vermont Service Center

Consulate : New Delhi, India

I-129F Sent : 2010-04-13

I-129F NOA1 : 2010-04-16

I-129F NOA2 : 2010-07-30

NVC Received : 2010-08-01

NVC Left : 2010-08-03

Consulate Received : 2010-08-09

Packet 3 Received : Never Recieved

Packet 3 Sent : 2010-08-20

Packet 4 Received : 2010-09-27

Interview Date : 2010-11-16

Interview Result : Visa Approved after 20 days in AP I was given 221 G to submit Medicals( My panel Physician left my Medical Case sheet Blank and forgot to mention any classification)
