Question about country of birth (Hong Kong vs. China)

Hello, I'm a citizen of Canada living in Toronto and my fiance is living in Florida. We're filling out the I-129F form and under my city and country of birth I'm a little confused. I was born in Hong Kong when it was still a British Colony and then when I was 3 I immigrated to Canada. Now that China has Hong Kong back do I put Hong Kong as the city of birth and China as the country? I remember when I renewed my passport the passport officer told me to put Hong Kong as both the city and country of birth and not China because that would affect my application. Can someone help me on this one?

Even today, Hong Kong has separate visa processes from the mainland. In my opinion, I would put: City: Hong Kong; Country: Hong Kong SAR, China.

just put city: hong Kong, country: Hong Kong.

That's what I did when I apply for US citizenship, also when I petition for my husband in Hong Kong. I was born in Hong Kong before 1997 also, and immigrated to the USA 10 years ago...

The thing is, when you are born in Hong Kong, your birth certificate is totally different from the one in China. And if you need a certified copy of your birth certificate for any part of your visa journey, it's much easier to get one from Hong Kong than from China. It may just confuse the immigration office if you put China as the country...

Good luck!

Doesn't matter what has happened since her birth. She was born in Hong Kong, not China. My wife was born in Ukraine SSR (Soviet Socialist Republic) it is not longer that, but that is what it says as her place of birth on all her forms.
