Thanks for the menu suggestions, ladies.

I'll give a few things a try... but then again, it's been great having him cook so much, so I may NOT try too hard & just eat what he cooks... even if it is WAAAAAAAY more starchy than my typical eating (rice, potatoes, flour, & bread are ingredients he's using a lot, that I never use). His food has been quite delicious, though. Today he made pumpkin rice with curry shrimp. He took the leftover curry shrimp I made yesterday (that he didn't like for some reason) and added a lot of stuff to it.

hmmm we eat curry shimp alot now I am hungry  Do you use West Indian seasonings when you cook?

I wouldn't. I would walk away. But, that's me maybe. I have no patience for confrontation.

I would too. KARMA is a ######. The same thing happened to me with an EX. I could have whipped her a@@ but I just sat back and watched him destroy her. After he put her in $20,000 in debt, she wanted to be friends again, even to this day.

Guess I've been lucky with Damien eating almost everything for the first couple of years. We only eat Jamaican food whenever he cooks it, which is not often. He's into body building so he feels like Jamaican food is too starchy.

WOW Lawny, it must be the week for this shyt -

I know...sorry ladies; not to add to the sadness -- I tried and tried to tell her 6 years ago and what hurts her the most is that they just found out she's pregnant with their first.

Hell nah..... thats crazy! poor ting....

We need to give women empowerment classes! Its a shame to see "women" going through this! I told my cousin (the one who tried to kill herself) her problem was she didn't get angry! I told her reflect back to everything she did for him... and get ANGRY!!! Shooooooo do like Madea... have a "grit ball" fight... *Throw and swat, throw and swat*

Im friends with every last one of my ex's. I demanded respect from their azzez!

I can't imagine finding out something like that.... it would hurt to the CORE.

------

Yesterday I cooked curried shrimp & onion, served with biscuits. Today I made acorn squash stuffed with apples, walnuts, and honey. Steven didn't like either one. Today he said, "Is this the type of food you cook?" I said, "Yup!" I promise you, both are SO DELICIOUS. I'm loving my acorn squash.

Hey Nat,

I know food is gonna be a problem for me because Al eats NOTHING but Ja food...and stuff they serve at the fast food restaurants in Ja (like KFC etc)

Steve told me NO italian food...

YEP

is hubby had to convince me to try the mexican restaurant down the rd

we always argue over food because he LOVES italian and as far as i am concerned that is just ketchup and macaroni

but i will admit there are SOME italian dishes i will try

 It's not ketchup Bunz! It's tomato sauce & basil & oregano & garlic & onion! Mmmmm!

tomato sauce, basil, oregano, chives, cloves, parsley, most times lemon, italian seasoning, squash, mushrooms, mustard, dill, eggplant, sprouts, sweet yams, greens, are totally alien to Jamaican cooking. Has taken me MANY years to start eating some of these.

I can understand why Steven didn'tlike the curry shrimp even though they were good, it's nosluron you, it's just they weren't Jamaican style...It's hard to adjuest to new styles ans tastes...Many Jamaicans cook EXACTLY the same way their grandmother and mother did, they never EVER experiment or add or subtract ingredients, it's just not culturally acceptable. I think it's a wway of preserving Jamaican culture in that people today cook rice and peas EXACTLY the same as 100 year ago, and cook the same dishes.

Ie, you only eat certain dishes on Sunday. It would NEVER be acceptable for instance to cook soup for dinner on Sunday, or liver and bananas, or curry chicken.

A lot of Jamaicans can be very unadventurous when it comes to food. Simple is definitely good, and if you can buy some browning, even better.

Food like baked chicken, fried chicken, pepper steak Jamaican style with green peppers etc, chicken wings, maybe turkey wings. If he eats pork, roast pork with browning on it. Everything should be brown. He may like grilled salmon, mashed potatoes, no lemon on the salmon. Basic simple salads with stripsof chicken....Mac and cheese...steamed vegetables, carrots, peas, cabbage etc. and of course whatever Jamaican dishes you can cook....

No extra spices, just the basics as Jamaicans do it, salt, black pepper, all purpose seasoning, thyme, pimento seeds, spring onions, tomatoes, garlic, hot pepper.

Thanks for the tips.. Im going to need them! I love using spices..

No. I have Jamaican all-spice and jerk seasoning, but I don't like them much. I like all the things JaEnglish names...

You just named many of my favorites!

From your list, I'm guessing it was the basil that turned him off. When I made my curry shrimp yesterday, I accidentally poured much more basil than I meant to. It was still good to me, as I enjoy basil.

Actually in Italy many regions don't use a red sauce at all!

I am sure there would be something you would LOVE!
