I should've brought a hair dryer to work. I REALLY need to dry out. If our restrooms had those hand dryers, I'd be in there right now putting myself underneath it.

I understand that JG but the problem is wider than that & that's my real problem. I don't like the way locals in the service industry tend to treat other locals. If I go to a place by myself, of course I get the royal treatment but as soon as I bring my fiance (now hubby), we are treated shoddy. And it's not because of how we are treating them. I always treat service people very kindly & I tip well. But I see a big difference in treatment when it comes to locals patroning a place. (Maybe not in every case but I've seen it enough where it's not just my imagination.) It's not bad for places to get some raves but sometimes it's just over the top & it's from a very slanted point-of-view. I'm not one to try & rain on anyone's parade so I don't comment but I'd LOVE to tell people about the kind of treatment we get. Of course, they wouldn't believe it because they get the 'tourist' treatment. There are only a handful of places we've been to where the staff have been friendly & the places that haven't been, never see my business again & if anyone cares to ask, I'll tell them why. I could write an essay on why this bugs me (as you can see I'm starting to) but it really boils down to the difference in treatment of locals vs. the almighty white tourist. It's wrong, plain & simple.

I understand exactly what you are saying Ells... it happens all over the island... even the route taxis make me mad. I can be talking to him for an hour at night while he is trying to get a ride. But I know full well if I was standing by his side every car would be honking wanting to pick us up...

but yuh know tings noh easy a yard, and all dem see sometimes are the dollar signs ova a tourists head....

Dem muss tink mi a yardie fi true cause sometimes mi and hubby will be waiting for damn near an hour in the evenings for a taxi!

ELLS...they were talking about the significant rainfalls that you guys would be getting in the next 48 hrs on the news this morning. They were saying that they were worried about dangerous mudslides as a result of all the heavy rainfall in a short amount of time, mixed with all the burned land from the wildfires! You guys be careful!

Again, I have to agree, just look how they charge up the prices if you want you fiance to spend the day with you at a resort. I stayed at the RIU (mobay) and they wanted to charge me 100.00 just for about 6 hrs with my fiance...after dem bastids lost my bathing suit

Thanks Ells for the congrats

Hey MsTee...no worries...I just think that one of the problems that continue to plague the African-American/and Afro-Caribbean (is that right) is that this "exotic" and "genuinely beautiful" looked of mixed race people is something to aspire to. Whether you mean to or not in your actions, thoughts, beliefs, this will perpetuate itself in one way or another. Why do you think bleaching is running so rampant in JA? And not just JA, but all over the world. Unfortunately Africans and those from African descent continue to struggle with acceptance of their own skintone, features, etc because they know that for a majority of people it is not "as beautiful". Beautiful--yes. But still not "as beautiful". That's like saying a woman is smart, but not "as smart" as a man. Or a larger woman may be beautiful, but not "as beautiful" as a smaller woman simply because of size. If there is a way that we can make all of our children feel as though they are the most beautiful beings, then we need to make that our mission in life EACH AND EVERY DAY! If we do so, if we uplift ALL of our children, make them ALL feel special, then will there be no need for constant desire to change themselves. Trying to be something that they are not--regardless of the mental and physical implications that may be endured during their pursuit. Looking for others to validate them instead of finding that validation and acceptance within themselves and from those that love them. It would probably prevent 1/2 of the ####### that's going on with our young people today.

Greatly said!!!!!!

Girl we got to help you with the quotes LOL I always think you are writing the post when you are commenting.

Ells can hold the Quoting 101 class

girl just tryna stay out of trouble at work.... im soooo glad u and z are talking now.. i really think she is willing and ready to be friends again.. maybe just not the whole circle thing again..which is probably best..

how did mr philly's day go w/ the boys yesterday

I was like why we taking baby steps LOL but I am not the only one with the initial of Z I see.

Mr Philly was ok yesterday the boys ended up up across the street at the Fass gyals house on their porch for the rest of the day he reported :help: I must put a stop to this with the quickness!

smaddy pass me the cliff notes fi mrs p post please :reading:
mstee that's an odd question they asked him

to write down your names?

I thought the same thing? what if he coudn't read or write then what?

I have heard stories where the SO didn't know how to spell it - or didn't know the last name -

what a damn shame

Bunz...mek yuh get yuh lazy self hup and read mi post! :bonk::bonk: Mi try and spread knowledge and good cheer tidey! I heard another reason they sometimes ask the beneficiary to sign their sponsor's name is to validate that they actually KNOW their names...imagine if you're sponsoring someone and they don't know your name. Or how to pronounce it. Or how to spell it. As far as the issue of them possibly not knowing how to write, then I'm guessing that would've come up in the THOUSANDS of documents that they had to sign before they got to the interview. BUT, if someone else "helped" with the signing...then...:whistle:

Most document preparation in this process are handled by the USC , signing ones name on documents is totally different than having to write others names correct? The issue is having to be able to read and write others name other than the SO's name but children etc. I understand the importance of he or she knowing the information but realistically being able to write it could be an issue and I wonder how that would handled if that came in to play.

Mrs Palmer I understand your point and I think more people need to be aware of how these perceptions affect our children. Don't get me wrong Mstee, I myself have thought mixed babies are beautiful too, but when you stop and think how this common perspective may affect a child's self esteem it really makes you look at things a different way.

Have ya'll ever seen that video of the black children picking which dolls were more pretty?? It is sad, very sad that our beautiful black children do not feel that they are pretty too.

I'm trying to find the video...

Just popping in to let MsTee know that she and her sweetie are in my prayers! Remember, God is in control!

look at mi ticker!! mi pick di medium color babies cuz mi nuh knoa ow dem a come out...

well finesse you could have one very fair complected child and one with the perfect tan :)......everyone says to me....for being twins, do you know you have 2 different colored children cara??? OMG are you serious???? i didnt have a clue!!!!!!!!!!

I feel you one of my twins is chocolate and the other is vanilla.

Mixed children are SO beautiful to me! :)

Y? Because their skin is lighter & their hair may be a finer texture? I'm sorry, but this statement is really making me feel some type of way...

I apologize if its making you feel some type of way. My children aren't mixed and I still think they are beautiful too. I just think mixed children's skin tones, eye color and hair just comes across to me in a guinuinely beautiful way. It strikes something inside of me. I don't mean anything offensive about it.

MsTee, have you talked to your mister yet?? I'm just wondering how excited he is right now!

It's true....they think that locals aren't going to tip or whatever it is. I still fume over the time we tried to go to Best in the West jerk place on Norman Manley & we sat there reading the drink menu & made our decisions on what we wanted while the woman there ignored us. As soon as a white family of four came up & sat across the bar from us, the woman attended to the mother of the family IMMEDIATELY. As she blended up her fruit punch, I sat there in amazement that we had indicated what we wanted several minutes before the family arrived but she just chose to act like she didn't hear us. I was trying to be polite & not holler for her attention but it was very deliberate. She snapped right to it though with the tourist family. After a minute, we got up & drove away. Even if that chicken is so good it gives you an orgasm, we'll NEVER give them our business!

I should've brought a hair dryer to work. I REALLY need to dry out. If our restrooms had those hand dryers, I'd be in there right now putting myself underneath it.

Thanks Mrs. P! Fortunately, we're in the city so flooding street sewers, fallen tree branches & power outages will hopefully be the worst of it. I hope everyone in the hills will be okay though.

Congratulations MsTee!!! I'm not caught up on all the posts, but I saw some big letters saying Approved.

We're off to apply for a social security number/card.

I read this book & it explains, from a scientific perspective, why people tend to find interracial people attractive. (If you believe the science.)

Breeding Between the Lines: Why Interracial People are Healthier and More Attractive

Thanks Nat for the congrats and good luck with the SS card!
