Chit, there goes my last warm day: head gasket affair on Sunday ;(

I'm from Florida. I don't know what that means exactly. I understand the last warm day, although I have never really experienced it. We only have about two or three weeks out of the year where the temps drop below 60. Other than that it's shorts and flip flops year round.

It's going to be 55 on Sunday and it is all downhill after with rains. Gotta do the headgasket on my car along with a whole bunch of other stuff "since I'm there".

How is everybody? And where is everybody? Better be enjoying the weekend ;)

Liz, question for you about SS: I understand that one goes to their local office with I94 and applies for one, was it 21 day after arrival or is it different from state to state? Also, what happens with that card after marriage? Just re-apply?

Thank you!

Nice and sunny today, lovely change from yesterday! I'm off tomorrow so it will be nice and maybe some chaos tonight :)

I'm not Liz but :

As a K-1 Visa Holder you are eligible to receive a SSN upon producing a valid I-94 (unexpired). Do

not wait until you only have a few weeks left until your I-94 expires to file for a SSN. Many SSA

offices will not allow you to file for a SSN if your I-94 is about to expire (generally 14 days prior

to the expiration on your I-94). On the other hand, you should also not file for a SSN too soon either.

You should wait 2 weeks after you arrived in the US before applying for a SSN. If you go too soon your

record of arrival will not be in the SAVE-ASVI system yet, and it will require manual verification from the

USCIS. As this will add weeks to the period it takes to process the SSN, it is advisable to attempt to wait the two weeks to be safe. If you have waited the 2 weeks and they tell you they can not verify you arrival record via the SAVE database, you may allow them to to process it (but remember the potential delay for manual verifications). You can ask if they will check the computer again for you in a few days or return personally to have them look again -- thus eliminating the manual verification. The manual verification will require the SSA office to file a G-845 with the USCIS.

You can apply anytime but you just have to make sure your SO has been registered in the data base basically. I hope that helps :D

Hi Richard, how's it going??

Much better now that I have a little (ok a lot) of sleep under my belt. :)

I havent had a lot of time to spend here lately, but I have read along the way and I wanted to say that I was happy for you, your transition to the 'left' coast seems to be going very well for you... and that makes my heart happy :)

It might very well end up being a closet sized studio, but it will be our closet sized studio with cute curtains and weird shaped soap. Maybe a bed and some utensils, we'll see how things go :P

Europe just went back an hour for fall!
