I received the 1 YR extension letter (NOA) on May 2009, when will it expire? My conditional GC (2 yr) expired on August 2009.

I believe its from the reciept date from your NOA letter. But I am not sure.

The NOA extends you green card for one year, so if the date of expiry is August 2009 on your green card then it is extended to August 2010.

BertieMae has it right. Your expired green card and the NOA work together so, the NOA extends your green card for one year to August 2010. You need to carry both of them with you, although you can probably get away with carrying a copy of the extension letter and use the original for official purposes like travel or work validation or DL renewal, etc. Hopefully you will have received your 10 year card long before August 2010, though.
