We applied for Mathew's Social Security card and had no problems whatsoever besides some minor confusion on the systems end.

HOWEVER,registering his car was a whole other deal and I'm still fuming about it. She didn't want to help us because he's not American basically. Some people make me sick. We'll be going to the Frankfort office next time.

Oh that sucks, people need to recognize that they need to do their job whether they like it or not!

On another note, I need to post here more often b/c the last time I posted that I didn't get my monthly bill, it came the next day! Now yesterday I posted that I'm not sure when I'll be able to send off our AOS and something came up, hopefully it works out so I can send it off within the next 2 weeks.

Virginia Beach was so nice.... it was wonderful to get out of this house, get away, and feel "Normal" for a little while.

Biometrics was interesting..

We got to the office, went in and Fuat had to fill out an information sheet with name, dates of birth, hair color, eye color, height, weight, etc. When he was done he went back to the receptionist, she looked at the form and I heard her say "Hmm.. you need to lose 2 pounds." He suddenly got a confused look on his face and looked at me... and I was just as confused as him. She sent him over to sit down in the finger printing area and another woman came out to take his finger prints. Before he went to give his prints he asked me why he had to lose two pounds and I told him I had no idea.. made no sense to me and I was just as confused as him. First of all, he's a size 30.. skinny, skinny.. and I did not know anything about any weight limit :) so very confused.

I was watching him get his prints taken,the whole time wondering about him having to lose two pounds...

It was interesting to watch the finger printing... as she took each print she compared it against the print taken at JFK to make sure he was the same person who got off the plane. I guess they did the same thing when they took his prints at JFK.. compared them to the print taken at the embassy to make sure he was the same person who went to the interview. One of his prints didn't match and the machine made an alarm sound... I panicked a little, but then she took the print again and it matched. THen she took his picture and we were done. We were there a total of 10 minutes..

Curoisity got the best of me, so before we left I went to the receptionist and asked her why she had told him he had to lose 2 pounds. She was really confused, so I explained to her that when she looked at the form she told him he had to lose 2 pounds. She insists she didn't say that and that we must have misunderstood her when she told him to go sit down. NO.. we didn't.. she told him he had to lose 2 pounds and THEN she told him to go sit down and we BOTH heard it.. but she just kept looking at us like we were crazy. I don't know what it was all about but she DID tell him that.. even if she doesn't remember or know why she would say it.

So we were there 10 minutes.. that was it. As we were driving home Fuat asked what would be next... and I told him we would have to wait for an appointment letter for our interview. As luck would have it, when we got home we had a letter from USCIC. Our case has been transferred to the California Service center and we will be notified of their decision via mail.

So.. no interview for us I guess :)

Now my question is do we need to send them anything? I have read posts from people saying to save utility bills,photos etc. to prove you live together and to practice for the interview questions. We won't have an interview, but do I need to send photos, utility bills, bank accounts, etc that are in our joint names? I got everythign ready before my surgery, so we would have it when we needed it.. but the letter said nothing in regards to sending them anything.

I guess we will just wait to see if we get another letter asking for documentation. They already have our marriage license.. maybe I won't need to send anything and the next letter will say the green card is in producution :)

That was definitely interesting!!!!

But once your case is transferred you don't need to send in anything, that is unless they ask you to which chances are they won't so just sit back and wait for a decision that should come soon!!

Jenn - No need to send anything in Congrats! Hopefully you will be approved quickly. Good to read your biometrics review - we are still waiting for Sifa's biometrics letter (hopefully we'll get it this week - I'm getting anxious!)

Still hold on to your evidence though - you'll need to send stuff in for Removal of Conditions in a few years...I'm planning to hold on to every scrap of evidence just in case they want it at that point

Not in a few years...I think the next year. As far as I know, they will remind you 10 months after the AOS for the Removal of Conditions and then you have to fill another forms and send it and get the papers on 5 to 10 years (depends from state to state).

We will finish with the papers once when we will have an oath ceremony and become the US Citizens.

The length of the regular green card cannot vary from state to state, because the green card is regulated by the federal government. It's just simply 10 years.

The five year thing you might be thinking about is that after five years, normal legal residents can apply to become citizens -- which isn't relevant for the majority of us on VJ, because most of the PLRs here were sponsored by USC spouses (or then-fiancé(e)s), and PLRs who are married to USCs can apply for citizenship after 3 years (and 18 months of continuous residence in the US).

Yeah... I think maybe there is confusion about green card and citizenship

The first one our spouses will get is 2 years... then you can remove conditions and get the 10 year card. But, at 3 years you can apply for citizenship.. actually, from what i have read, can start the paperwork for this at the point where you remove conditions and get the 10 year card as it takes a while for all the paperwork. As you said.. citizenship is five years, but spouses are an exception and can apply at three.

On a personal note.. feeling pretty good today.Next chemo is Thursday and hoping I can get cleared to return to work after that. I've been locked in the house for 5 weeks and going insane :)

Yes it is... but seemed so much less stressful than K1. Maybe because the hard stuff is over and our honey's are here

Wow that was fast I thought we got ours quickly, but yours was really fast.
