I can't get used to this time change AT ALL. I'm seriously still wide awake.

But I've started packing. :) I'm going to Lexington on Friday, spending the night and my Aunt is going to take me to the airport. I always just leave my car at their house. So that means that my packing time is limited to tomorrow and Thursday. I'm the type of person that makes this huge list and has to check everything off at least twice. I don't want to forget anything at all. Especially not any of our paperwork.

Jenn it's almost time for us!!!!! 3 days to go, and 6 until Mathew gets approved and Fuat sees his new home!

I'm so happy for you Kayla, back when you first got your interview date I was like "dang that's far" but I guess it wasn't...

I thought I was the only one who made that checklist. BTW, I suggest that you don't pack your paperwork, (and your outfit for the graduation) take it along with you as your carry on, just in case anything goes wrong with your luggage you'll still have what really matters. Hope I didn't jinx you

morning guys! wow kayla & jenn, you guys are both so close!! i am so psyched for you. :)

krystle - so, how is it having glenoi there? is it difficult or easy to adjust? does it feel like one of your trips or more permanent already?

re: the SSN - yes i'm pretty sure you will not get it automatically. Also I've heard that to be safe you should wait 2 weeks after arrival before going to make sure it is actually in the system. I read that here on VJ, but not sure where.

kayla - good choice on the cake maker switch... ;)

my honey is having an operation today on his nose (well two, one to correct deviated septum and another for something he called "coronetes" in spanish)...he wanted to have everything done health-wise before he came here. It's MUCH cheaper there and they have good doctors. but of course i am so nervous because i can't be there with him! i am hoping his dad will be able to send a message when it is done so i know everything is okay.

AND i am excited because my wii & wii fit is arriving today! now we shall see what all the fuss is about. ;)

ney - i just wanted to say that YOU ROCK! congratulations on still being smoke free, that is just completely awesome. :star:

I knew I should've waited 2 weeks, maybe I would've have gotten someone other than the michelin man to call our number...

I hope he recovers soon, but whhat kind of surgery is that  ?

Your wii is coming andmy ring should be comiing any day now too!

Jenn, when does the park open?

I hope you have a guest room because me and Glenoi will be coming over in June or so when we're ready to visit the park :star:

Ok, what link are you refering to?

As you said, the reps usually don't know what they're talking about, I called and explained the situation and the lady is like "whatever immigration told you, that's what'll happen" and I'm like "immigrationn didn't tell him it'll be mailed" and she's like "well that means you didn't bring proper documents to apply for it" and I just hung up because she said she CAN'T verify his eligibility and my patience wore thin.

So I called immigration, that number we used to call to check if we got our NOA2 and the thing would never ask if I need to be connected to an agent and when I press 0, it says it doesn't understand. I'm so p'd off

BTW, did Fuat ever recieve his V'day gift?

Regarding your comment to Kayla: in a few days I'll STILL be with my honey because he's here for good and we won't be booking out of a hotel and crying on the way to the airport. (I just had to say that :star: )

Karen is correct. He needs to wait 10 days after arrival before applying or he won't show up in whatever government system they use to verify his visa. For my employees it's called SEVIS (Student exchange visitor immigration system).. not sure what it's called for a K1 person. If you apply before then he will get rejected and will get a letter, about 4 weeks later, telling him he needs to reapply.

I can't find the link I was talking about, but am running out the door to work, will see if I can find it later.

Karen, I hope all goes well with the surgery.

No.. Fuat didn't get the valentines day gift. Someone ate that darn chocolate..

Yeah.. smart alec.. in a few days I will be with my honey too and we won't be booking a hotel or crying at the airport either :):):):)

OK.. well.. we'll be at the airport and a hotel but you know what I mean :)

It already sunk in that he's here and he's here to stay, I'm definitely not surprised that he's here because before he came we both talked as if we knew for a fact that he's coming. For instance I would say "when you come we can..." Nothing seems to have changed so far, when I used to visit Jamaica, it was always on a budget since I used to go so often and we'd rent an apartment so we can cook and save money by doing so. So in there words, we were already doing the things that a couple who lives together would do so now everything seems normal to us, which is good, no surprises.

Okay I'll wait and go back next week. Damn those postal workers, for v'day I only sent a hand written love letter and he got it right before he left.

I feel like I've got a hangover this morning. I either need to get used to this time change, or sleep completely through it.

Krystle, thanks for reminding me about the paperwork in my carry-on. With all of the other things I'm doing it probably would have slipped my mind to make sure to put it in my carry-on rather than my actual bag. Thank goodness for you all.

I'm so nervous this morning that my stomach is all butterflies. 6 days away, but only today and tomorrow of it are productive enough to where I can get what I need.

I remember the night before I left for Jamaica, I was so nervous I couldn't eat or sleep and didn't do do until I saw him, by then I was literally fainting.

I wouldn't stop until I found what I was looking for.

Here's the link to the guides on a k-1 visa on uscis's website: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html#Immigrant

Under "How to Apply for a Social Security Number Card

After your fiancé(e) has been admitted into the United States, he/she can apply for a social security number card by visiting one of the Social Security offices in your local area. To learn about how-to-apply, visit the website for the Social Security Administration." click on the link and that page can be printed and taken to the SSA office.

This is the link to get to the SSA website:http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/ssa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=576

and from there, click Social Security Numbers For Noncitizens and that can be printed as well because it is more specific.

Because I just found his i-94 form and it has it there, I thought it'd be in the passport...

Jenn: I don't remember how long ago this was but you said something about the EAD stamp that JFK gives? What was it?

Because I just found his i-94 form and it has it there, I thought it'd be in the passport...

It will be on the I94 not the passport or visa. It's valid for 30 days.. technically. I say Technically, because there is some discussionon whether or not it is valid for K1 at all... In February 2009 the rules changed and it was not supposed to be valid for a K1 visa.. but they were still giving the stamp anyway. In July of 2009 I had a past employee come back with the stamp and was told, by our legal team, I could let him work.

The other day I was reviewing the information regaring non-citizens working and the K1 was listed as being ALLOWED to work without an EAD, but that an employee may require that they have an EAD before hiring them. So, technically it looks like they are legally allowed to work but that an employer has the right to refuse hire based on not having an official EAD.
