Green card and SSN

hi everyone,

just got here in US this month Aug.11,2009 for cr1 visa, just wondering how long will have to wait to my green card and SSN.

Is there anyway to work before you get it?

As a CR1 visa holder can we already work right after we receive the SSN, or should we have both SSN and GC to be able to do so?

You'll need both, and they should arrive soon.

Takes 2-3 weeks (sometimes more, sometimes less) to get the PR/Green Card. If you don't get the SS card around the same time, you can go to the SSA office and 'apply' for it (sometimes they send them automatically, sometimes they don't - for some reason).

You cant really work without the SS#.

my wife got here on the 27th august and we are waiting too, but my friend pinay american and his wife got her on the 6th august and got the green card on the 20 th august. mostly what i read here people get ssn in two weeks and green card in two month of the date they arrive in usa. good luck. abby n sheryl

You need your GC first as proof that you entered the US legally and is an LPR.

You will usually get the SSN thru mail probably 1-2 weeks after US arrival.

Employers usually asks for your SSN upon hiring you.

I'm not sure about the GC.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
