Hi All

I have gone through alot of links and guides and I could not get some answers that I want. I hope that visajourney community can assist me int his

My wife is American and I am Canadian. She sponsored me last year to go to USA.

We have our Interview date in next coupla weeks.

What I want to know is

Once My Interview is completed, and I get my Passport back and Paperwork.

Can I go to USA after a week with my passport and paperwork. Go to USA Border like Buffalo and tell them "I am comming on a sponsorship visa to USA as a immigrant". They will tell me to report to immigration

Once all that is done.

Can I go to Socail Security Department and apply for my SSN (even though it will be temp) I just want to get paperwork going

Can I then within the same day, make a U turn and come back to Canada

Wrap things up here and then travel back to USA within 1-2 Months

Thanks

If I read what you wrote correctly, you want to cross the border and "activate" your visa, then turn right back around and go back to Canada. I did that exact thing. I crossed at Buffalo, activated my visa and picked up my husband from the Buffalo Airport. Then I came right back a few hours later! Not a problem at all. We crossed back over officially together into the U.S. a week later and it was fine.

Good luck!

I don't see any problem as long as your immigrant visa is activated as a temporary I-551 when you first enter the US.

I like to come back to canada and hope to find a job in US and ofcourse u need SSN for some of those jobs. So I can at least work in canada for coupla weeks more till i find a job. and then move myself

When I got my SSN they told me they don't do temp cards anymore. You'll likely have to wait for it to be mailed, it took mine 8 business days. Most jobs you can apply for without an SSN, they generally require that for the interview or acceptance of a position.

Good luck.

Use your passport with the immigrant visa stamp, along with your birth certificate; go to a local SSC office and apply for one. That's what I did and I got mine in less than a week.

However, for the SSN - you have to wait until you are in the USCIS 'Save' system - that generally takes from 10 days to 2 weeks - so no, you won't be able to do it the same day, if you do go to a social security office.

There was an option on the DS-230 that you could mark to ask to be issued a SSN automatically, did you mark that? If not, perhaps you could ask them to do it at the interview for you.

That does not mean it will actually happen, lots of times it is overlooked - however if it does work it might save you having to go back to apply (should check after a couple of weeks with the SS office to make sure they received the request)

Anyway, just an option.
