Applying for passport at Oath ceremony...

I have my oath ceremony tomorrow and the officer who interviewed me strongly advised to bring cash and apply for an expedited passport there and then ("you never know when you'll need it")... I should have asked him but forgot, do they make a copy of your certificate (or whatever they give you) or do you have to simply hand the only copy over and hope for the best?

(If it's relevant this is at the Orlando, FL office)

I just read in another thread about someone going through the ceremony and they told her to be sure and make a copy, even though it says on the certificate not to copy, for safe-keeping.

I would be very nervous about sending off the original without a back-up copy.

Scanner/Copier/Printers are so cheap nowadays, with a laptop, and a 12V to 129 VAC converter, and take that along and DIY. Can also download the passport form from the DOS and have all that filled out. We didn't have that service at St. Paul, but did that the next morning at our city clerks office. Recall even with all that done in advance, along with the two passport photos, still took about an half an hour. We were the only ones there. Would think at the oath ceremony, if even only ten applied, would be quite a long line and wait.
