My girl got her BC yesterday when she got home she noticed her first name was spelled Pamala instead of Pamela so she went down there and they told her it would be $1500.00 pesos to fix and it would take 4 weeks.....For me it seems if it was their mistake they should fix it right away and why charge for it?????.....Or is this a way that the Goverment tries to make extra money? Anyone else run into this problem?

what would I do without the love you give me.

Hi charlie&pam.

Yes, even if it was their error, they expect you to pay for their mistake...still you also have to take into consideration how your girl's BC was prepared...many clerical errors happen when someone is dealing with a handwritten or otherwise illegible information.

My mom's BC and MC had a double whammy. On her BC, her name was correct, but her mother's name was not. On her BC, her mother's name was wrong (because they based it on the BC) AND all their middle initials were incorrect. We started working on her BC, but there was so much back and forth, the whole process took way more than 4 weeks.

After your girl gets the error on her BC corrected at the Local Civil Registrar's Office, there is another process for taking it down to the National Statistics Office so that the BC with the error will be replaced by the one with the correction...just make sure the 4 weeks they are quoting refers to the wait time at the LCRO + the NSO time.

Best to get it remedied while there is time...there isn't any room for arguing in their procedure.

You can go to a public notary and have an affidavit regarding the error. I had a problem with my middle name the whole middle name but all i did was get an affidavit from a lawyer. . Tell the lawyer what the problem is and they know what she needs..only cost me $10.

Remember also that 1500 piso is only $30. Small price to pay for the woman you love! Since I have been in the Philippines I have tried several shortcuts to avoid bureaucracy based fees and time lines. Usually the shortcut backfires and adds time and expense.

Good Luck!

I've read this somewhere. Hope this will help.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CORRECTION OF ENTRY / CHANGE OF NAME / CANCELLATION OF ENTRY TO BE SUBMITTED TO NSO PRIOR TO THE ISSUANCE OF ANNOTATED BIRTH / MARRIAGE / DEATH CERTIFICATE

2. CERTIFICATE OF FINALITY (original or certified Xerox/machine copy). This is in the form of a certification issued by the court which rendered the decision/order. It serves as a proof that the court decision/order has become final and executory.

3. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION (original or certified Xerox/machine copy). This is issued by the Local Civil Registrar (LCR) of the place where the court decree of Correction of Entry/Change of Name/Cancellation of Entry was registered. Take note that the place of registration of the court decree is at the Local Civil Registrar's Office (LCRO) of the place where the court is situated/located.

(NOTE: This certification is not the birth / marriage / death certificate but rather a certification stating that the Court Decree of Correction of Entry/Change of Name/Cancellation of Entry has been properly registered or recorded in the Registry Book of Court Decrees and Legal Instruments under a specific Registry Number.)

I think they will also post the change of name in a newspaper..I had mine corrected in 2002. But be sure to tell your girl to make sure that the civil registry office forward the corrected document to NSO, because Quezon City Hall did not forward mine. I only knew that my record in NSO was same until 2009 when I requested for authenticated BC for Marriage License..They had to search (manually) 2002 files to get mine and it took 2weeks for me to get the authenticated BC (with corrected name on it) from NSO.

Helllo, tell your girl to go to civil registrar, it will take 1 month to fix it. My surname was mispelled also but it was corrected since 2002 but gave me trouble getting a visa on the day of my interview. Her name will not be change in the BC but will have a remarks that it's corrected. Be sure also to secure a copy of NBI and CENOMAR with her mispelled name on her interview so that her visa will not be delayed like what happened to me.

GOD BLESS

If it's clerical error, you have to pay for 1000 Php only, she needs to go the place where she was registered to file the petition of correction. She needs to obtain documents at least 10 showing her name is PAMELA,such as School records,PCC,NBI,Medical Records, Employment Certificates etc. Last March 2009 I had my middle name corrected, I went back to the Philippines just to correct it and I got the authenticated one on June 22,2009. Good luck!!

hello Charlie&Pam: --same case here!, I had also a mistake in my BC regarding my name, its even only a dash(-) in between my name rather than a space which appears to my BC in NSO copy. What i did is just, I filed for a correction of entry in our local civil registrar where I had my record. I had it corrected last 2007 in which i paid only 1000 pesos for that single thing. I filled up a form for correction, attached documents that support for the correction of entry, which is ID's , NBI, school records, voters affidavit, etc..anything that has a correct spelling of your name being used..Its NOT 4 weeks to me though, it takes 2 months + for me to get the new BC in NSO paper, with a remarks that the name is already being corrected..and btw affidavit is ok, but some wont accept it anymore, BC should be corrected..better start filing now.. :innocent:
