I cant ship cell phones with batteries through mail so I was looking for a service,if it exist, where I can pay a carrier who is headed for Ghana to take the phones. Does anyone know of such a service?

The batteries are known to explode with the extreme changes in tempature and it can cause fires in the holding area of plane or hurt a carrier. Thats what they told me the post office.

Here is what I find on a cell company site

Accordingly, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) recently issued a new regulation that requires that lithium-ion batteries either be shipped in their original equipment, or have tape over the terminal connections to help prevent short-circuits. In addition, the DOT requires packages containing lithium batteries to be properly marked and labeled.

Accordingly, all ReCellular packaging will have the following label:

PACKAGE CONTAINS LITHIUM-ION

BATTERIES (NO LITHIUM METAL)

Keep battery attached to phone.

If battery is not attached to phone, place tape over terminal ends

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Hi

I mailed a cell phone about two months ago using the post office and didn't have any problems. My boo got it with no troubles. I left it in its original container and then put it in a post office box and off to Lagos it went. Try a different post office someone might take it and send it for u.

Are you sure that the cell phone you are sending will work in Ghana? Unless things have changed in the past few years, which is quite likely, North America is on a different system than everywhere else. There used to be three different types of cell phones. Phones for the US market would not work outside of North America, while the other two types of phones would work everywhere but in the US. There were phones that had all three bands and could be used everywhere, but they were usually very expensive.

But maybe the US has finally caught up to the rest of the world. That would be convenient.

I've sent phones from China to Benin and they made it okay. I sent them DHL. I didn't know anything about the danger of batteries exploding.

You need a sim based unlocked phone that operates on the right band(s) for the country in question. Many US phones are multibanded now but if they don't have the right band you are out of luck

lists of cell bands by country

Check this data against the specifications on the phone to see if it will work there.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Customs fees cost an arm and a leg for mailing cell phones. Ends up being cheaper to buy a phone in Ghana.
