Got pink at HCMC?

I wouldn't worry about it much. This is a communist country and they know family members can be commies. If they denied everyone that had any family at all that was commie then no one would get visa's. My thinking is he saw something in the paperwork he had that said something that didn't jibe and was a lie or who knows. Just don't get too freaked out about anything and work on the red flags and get your babe here.

Wow!

Maybe it's an offshoot of my previous suggestion about a noob CO having their approved cases reviewed by a senior CO.

Can you imagine? You guys get your pink... then head back to Phuongs house and they call and say.. we made a mistake.. we're gonna deny it, don't bother coming back it's on it's way back to USCIS... I know they shuffle folks around alot, but damn if they had a noob in there at HCMC, its the wrong place for a noob.. Vancouver maybe but not HCMC....

...must....resist....making....comment.....about....noobs....in....Vancouver.... :o

Sheesh! Well, I would be disappointed, to say the least, but if it meant that we really shouldn't have gotten pink in the first place then I guess I'd understand, though I'd probably feel like pulverizing the noob who gave us the pink and got our hopes up.

At least I don't have to worry about communists in the family. Phuong's family remembers the battle of Hue in 1968, though Phuong was just a toddler. They also remember what the VC did there during the brief time they controlled the city. Nearly 3000 civilians were massacred and buried in shallow mass graves. It's safe to say that the people of Hue didn't cheer when the Americans pulled out before the end of the war and the VC returned. They aren't proud of what the communists have done to their country, and most of them want to get the heck out of there. That's one of the reasons Hue province has the highest visa fraud in Vietnam.

Scott,

My wife is from the north, and we were originally given a blue slip. Then we got the best lawyer in HCMC involved. I flew to Vietnam around the time period he thought she would get her Visa. So we flew to HCMC and waited. The lawyer met with the CO and discussed our case, and was given a pink slip. He gave us the slip and was told to come back the next day to pick up her Visa. We went back the next day and the Visa was ready.

So my point is you can get the Visa the next day, because we did. Just don't know if our laywer was the only reason, or if your circumstance would dictate that. Our flight scheduled to come to the United States was 2 days after she got the Pink Slip. So the only way we could catch that flight is if they gave her the Visa the next day, which they did and we flew back to Hanoi that night. We woke up and had one day to say goodbye to everyone and flew to the US later that night.

Congrats and Good Luck!!!!

I have heard from people that got the pink then later denied, and they were members of the party as well. One was just a simple secretary for the school system from hanoi. The last time I talked to Jeff about it, he said his fiancee lost her job and has been "black listed" as he put it. I guess they went to pick up the visa and when she showed up she was taken in the back and told of the reversal, something to the affect that "she might" send information back to vietnam, and that was that. No visa and on perminate black list for america. Jeff hired an attorney after the denial, and that is where he found out that his fiancee had been black listed and the attorney said there was nothing that they could do, accept for her to try to go to a different country, but the fact that she had been black listed with the us consulate it would be hard, but they might be able to make a case for immunity or assilum or something along those lines. I thnk between the CO's playing god and things like this should let people know that passed how lucky they actually were, and for all those that are going to a interview it might be wise to have their fiancee or spouse quit any government job prior to the interview just to be safe.

Anyone else able to get Visa next day?

After Hien was approved, she explained some extenuating circumstances we had to the CO and asked if he could please get us the visa the next day. He said it was just not possible because of the huge number that had to be processed. We were given a date that was 7 days out.

Is it possible? Sure. Is it likely? No.
