The NSO does not change anything unless there is a request from the Civil Reg - that's how it works generally. But in cases where there is a misspelling, the Civil registrar would need an affidavit stating that it's just a misspelled name. A lot of times, this is a more complicated situation - the rationale behind it, i don't know. But it's way easier to add a details than CHANGE it. Doesn't make sense, but that's how the system works.

The new NBI with your misspelled name will not take long. The processing at the USEM's side though will be a timeline of 60days from submission. Don't worry about your petition expiring as you have already appeared for the interview.

Don't worry. It will just be another set of wait though.

Thanks for your answer.

Oh no :o 2 mos. My fiance will get pissed off for sure. :(

GOD BLESS

How did they know your name was misspelled?

Hi guys,

I had my interview today but didnt turn well, the CO checked my BC and she found out that my surname was mispelled by 1 letter. But it was corrected since 2002 and there was a notation on my BC that it was mispelled and corrected already. She asked me to submit a new NBI and CENOMAR using other spelling of my surname. My question is how long it will take before CO approves my visa after I submit my new NBI and CENOMAR? my petition will be expired on oct. 2009,If it's not approve ti'l oct 2009, what will happen to my case? Hope someone can give me an answer. :( Im really worried right now.

Thank you very much and GOD bless...

Sorry meant to quote this one. How did they know it was misspelled?

Thanks for this post, now it's clear to me that you have to provide sufficient evidence for both names you used.

Because I had my middle name amended also, when I took my first passport I notices the spelling of my meddle name were incorrect, the first letter is missing, but I continue to get my first passport because I had my first job abroad, since then I've been using the incorrect middle name. I just had it amended last March 2009 and I got the annotated one on June 2009.

Good thing I'm keeping my old passports.

Thanks again,

Scotty'sgirl: Have you had your BC amended and corrected na? Make sure you do it ASAP.

Hi happydancer! I haven't. How long will it take if I will have it amended & where? Thanks.

Go to the Local Civil Registrar where you were registered for your BC and ask them about the process of adding a middle name to your BC. That's the case with my daughter. It took me about one month to process the paperworks and 1 month to get the NSO to amend and add it to their database. Don't worry, you can keep track of it the moment the Local Civil Registrar has forwarded the correction to them. They use LBS so it's traceable.

Thanks a lot for that. That's very helpful.

You're welcome! Good luck!

You said that NSO can add middle name in their database, how about the mispelled name? do u have any idea if its possible, i asked someone from NSO why they didnt change my mispelled surname and they told me that it cannot be corrected anymore, they just put a notation that it was mispelled.

Right! NSO can't change it the way it appears in your BC, they WILL JUST PUT A NOTATION on the side that it is already corrected. same with mine!
