As you can see on the attached image, I've underlined the stuff we are not sure about.

First thing is the notice. Valid untill 08-11-09 to 12-11-09. What exactly does this mean? And the A number??

Second thing is the I-824 we can file for. What exactly does this mean? What does it do and do we have to do this?

The I-824 is to be used if you want to transfer to another consulate different than the one you requested, it has other uses but nothing for you at this time.

Once a petition is approved it has a validity of 4 months, the consulate can extend this if the need should come up so don't worry. Once the Visa is actually approved it has a valid period of 6 months to be used to enter the US before it expires FYI.

It means you must have your visa issued before 12-11-09 OR get an extension from the consulate. The I-824 is to request change of consulate. The A number is your forever ID number, it will be your "green card" number. You are no longer "denise", you are "Axxxxxxxx" to the US government. Welcome. (you can burn your A number when you become a citizen)

You can apply for a SSN approx. 2 weeks after you arrive in US, if you wait til you are married more than likely the SS office will require GC or EAD to give card.
