US to Canada calling . . . Cell Phone Providers?

Has anyone found a good cell phone provider for calling and texting Canada? I use phone cards because my cell company charges $.29/min for calling Canada. Texts cost me $.29 per text so I got a "bundle" that lets me send only 100 texts a month for $9.99 (this is just for texts sent to Canada, I also pay for a separate US text plan). I know I am not getting a good deal on either. When Sean moves here I would like to just change companies to make it easier for him to call home.

I tried searching online but didn't come up with anything.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

I just use phone cards because they are super cheap here. A $5 phone card sells for only $4 and it gives me 8 hours of talking.

Text messaging shouldn't cost you anything though. I have t-mobile and I can text to anywhere in North America for free.

We're right on the border and the best plan we've found for covering both US and Canadian calls/texting is Verizon. It's expensive - $120/month for our two phones - but the only one that gives us the coverage we need.

We also have a landline of sorts. We use Vonage which for $40/month gives us unlimited calling to the US, UK (my wife's family are all there) and Canada. It also allows us to take the phone back & forth between her place & mine, if necessary. As long as we have an internet connection, we can get on the phone. Plus we have three numbers - one US and two Canadian (for my wife's business).

Can't help with cell phone, because it too was costing too much to call home when I moved down here.

Eventually when we got internet, we went with Vonage. I can call home as much as I want for $24.99/month (plus taxes and fees). As well as John can call his mom, dad / family in West Virginia, Texas and Oregon.

As long as the internet or power doesn't go out, I'm good

We have Verizon's north American plan and I don't find it to expensive. My fiance had it to call me in Canada for $75 a month, then when I moved down here he added me to the line and now we pay just over $100 for the two lines. Personally, I don't think $100 for two cell phone lines is really that bad, considering I was paying $60 for a really crappy cell plan with Bell back home.

For a land line phone, I used the Cogeco digital phone in Canada, which gives you unlimited North American calling for just under $50 a month. I think there are similar plans in the US with cable companies like Comcast.

This is what I have. It's great.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

My fiance also has the VERIZON plan. It's approximately what other people are paying, something like 100$ a month which isn't cheap but also factor in that he sends me approximately 1200 texts a month....YES, 1200. I know its ridiculous but true. Our friends make fun of us constantly.

I'd say thats not a bad price considering here in Montreal with BELL i pay 78$ a month which includes no long distance talk time whatsoever. The one good thing I have is free incoming calls so that when my SO calls me with his VERIZON plan during the day Monday- Friday its free for me or else it would cost me a fortune.

Yes it does! That's why I got the Verizon Canada plan, so I could use it in Canada without roaming charges, and use it here to call Canada without LD charges
